Using hdmi goggles with Mavic, using Nvidia Shield

Looking at the split screen, there's not much difference between the live camera view on the left and the goggle view on the right, so I'd have to say the latency is very low. The Nvidia Shield is $200, and the lowest priced goggles are headplays at about $200. The Glyphs were $750, now selling for about $500. So unless you already have hdmi goggles laying around (like me) or need them for your other drones, you're probably better off waiting on the DJI goggles. Hopefully the price will be less than $500
how much of latency you get? how much does it cost for the tablet +goggles, will it cost more than DJI 'S own goggles

what I want to know is how the hell did he not lose signal? there were loads of trees blocking LOS right from the get go, no wonder he was getting signal errors. Some folks amaze me and wonder why they get 'flyaways'

True, lots of interference from trees, etc. Mavic is almost as good as my other drones with signal boosters. I've flown this path 100s of times with my other drones (P4, Inspires, Matrice) so I know the territory. Also, I know how to get signal back by running up stairs to my house or guest house and aiming rc for clearer los if necessary. Actually flown over 15000 feet down RR tracks next to golf course with my Matrice. However, not advisable to fly without clear los unless you have contingency plan, like a Trackimo on board.

Wow thanks for sharing, not. Something I would like to do too frequently myself

What's your take on Headplays then? I want to try FPV goggles and don't like waiting for new stuff to get released :p

I'm thinking of using my good old fatshark FPV goggles in combination with a small mini transmitter camera combo (something like this: http://e2b.org/163)
I'll "tape" the combo on top of the Mavic. That is.. When I receive it :-/

Why do you think you would have a fly away because you aren't LOS? You may lose uplink and controller input but that wouldn't cause it to fly off.

OK, I think I have my best mount for the N Shield. Simply insert 2 ballpoint pens into the rc mounts for support, add velcro at top, and the Shield is solid mount. Tested fine for me, and goggles work excellent. 20161031_162254.jpg20161031_162144.jpg20161031_162057.jpg

Crash as they say - " Necessity is the Mother of Invention" .
You seem like a function over form kinda guy and I like that!

At least you could have used two of the same type of pens for athletics :) LOL

I think I am going to go a similar route with my NVidia Shield Tablet.

I have some 5/16 Carbon fiber rod that is left over from another project that I could cut equal lengths from and use in place of the fancy pens. Not going to break that rod and wont get pen marks or leakage.

Ya, kinda crude but it works. I did find a couple of the same pens and wrapped the ends with velcro which gives the Shield even more stability, and looks better

@Crashburn
Re: mounting the Nvidia Shield K1 tablet to the controller, have you tried spreading the controller's arms out and inserting the corners of the tablet (landscape orientation) into the slotted openings inside the arms?

Also, various simple trays available to just lay it all on top of, with a 2 point neck strap. Check out RiteWing's tray.

Founds some pics of the above method. Ideally, some right angle plugs would make it more streamline re: holding it. Would like to know if the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 can fit; been thinking of picking one up.
