That's exactly what I use, love it.

1200 is/maybe was universal. It was used extensively in the Arabian Gulf and points in between. That is in mode 3, civilians don' have the military version, mode 4. But I have been out of that game for 20 years.

As a former controller, you are spot on. One of the few common codes are 1200 which is vfr. There are a few others such as hijack but most are unique idetifiers.
