See post 2 above for link to FAA authorization page. Instructions are there as well. Airspace authorizations can be requested to cover up to a six month time frame. The requested start date is supposed to be at least 90 days in advance but you could request an earlier start date in your...
Nahant and downtown are both within the inner solid blue circle on the sectional. That circle indicates they would be in Class B airspace. You would need the FAA authorization to fly there. Once you get outside of that inner circle there will be more locations that are not in controlled airspace.
Here is a link to the FAA sectional for Boston area. If you want to provide a couple possible flight locations we could use them as examples as to what airspace they are in.
VFRMAP - Digital Aeronautical Charts
So since you have passed the Part 107 you must know how to read FAA sectional charts. For commercial flights you can fly anywhere that is not in controlled airspace. Distance to airports is not a factor for Part 107 flights. If your flight location is within controlled airspace you would need...
The performance and reporting of the battery can be easily seen on this viewer. At 10 min 38 sec into flight the battery level was showing 76 percent even though total voltage had dropped below 10.5 volts and all three cells had dropped below 3.5 volts. One minute later the voltage had dropped...
If you were recording there should be some clues in your video. Also if you look at your flight record within the app you should see the gps coordinates at the bottom of the screen.
Find my drone works by the Mavic providing the GPS coordinates to the app whenever there is a solid signal between RC and Mavic. Your signal was lost just before RTH and was not restored so no updated GPS was provided after the loss. You had the video link restored for that one or two seconds...
I think the video snippet is consistent with a crash near the top of a building. Mavic is upside-down and I see sky and water - but the surface it is lying on appears to be a hard surface dark gray in color.
Jack I would agree - looks like South Tower is where it came to rest. Might have attempted to climb above to avoid it with OA but hit something above, or hovered and eventually attempted a landing up there.
The Mavic was at 371 feet altitude when approaching Fischer Island, but there are two very tall buildings probably condo's near the tip of South Pointe. Probably lost signal going behind those. It would have attempted to RTH and one of those 40 story buildings appears to be on what would be...
