Battery lasts longer with Flight vs Hover

I think I know why flight times are longer in steady flight vs hover:

My guess is the cooling fan does not need to run when the AC is moving forward at a good rate. When hovering, I'll bet that noisy cooling fan is helping suck down the battery.

Make sense?
 
Yes it does
We all know when you power up your Mavic and leave it sit. After a few minutes the fan clicks on.
So it has a way to monitor the heat and click on when it gets too hot.
 
It flies longer in motion rather than in hover because the Mavics body and props work together to almost form a flying wing. So the air passes over the Mavic and provides a certain amount of lift that in turn decreases the need for the motors to work as hard to hold up the Mavic. In Hover the motors are holding up all the weight so they use more power.
