Capturing narrative sound without going "live"

I recently used the Facebook Live feature on the dji4 app and successfully captured the sound around me through the phone mic. I'm wondering how to capture narrative sound the same way without needing to be on Facebook Live or live broadcasting at all. Thanks!

I tried using the voice memos app on my iPhone but it stopped recording. Maybe on android something like that would work

I would go with a separate device like a zoom or tascam recorder. The zoom is actually stereo and with an input splitter you could record ambient as well as attach a lavaliere mic for VO.
