Now that I have the mavic, I realize the old laptop isn't going to cut it.

I'm leaning towards the most basic iMac. 21in 1.6ghz dual core i5 processor.

My intended use is just for editing videos and photos and uploading to Facebook and YouTube. I don't need a professional set up.

What else do I need to consider? How do I educate myself on all this stuff? Are there any computers you'd recommend more in the $1000 range???

Hey there,
It's all about personal preference and budget. Get the speed you can afford, and then go from there. Lots of free Mac video editing software, even iMovie, to get you started, and do the basics nicely. Once you have the concepts down, and feel like dropping $300 on Final Cut Pro, you'll get a lot more features. There are good tutorials for these and other editors to get you started, just Google them, or search in YouTube for the most viewed and you'll probably find some good ones. Start simple, then add features as you want them. I'm no expert, but do have fun putting short vacation videos together with Mavic, GoPro, iPhone and DSLR pictures and video. Best of luck!
