Controller will never pair

Hello everyone,

keep seeing the message "CONNECTING_" on my remote. I tried all the standard solutions, including:

1. Checked that the switch on the mavic on the top of the microsd card is on RC
2. Tried pairing through the Go app (when i click linking in the app, the little light next to the WIFI-RC switch turns green. When I press the little button, it turns red and stays like that forever
3. Tried doing the other approach I saw on some videos, keeping pressed buttons C1, C2 and REC till you hear a sound and then press shutter. Sadly, no sound can be heard, and as expected, nothing else happens.

I even tried to 'hard reset' the remote with a method that DJI specialist suggested (hold C1,C2, shutter and shutdown), nothing works.

I suspected this could have been caused by the firmware update I did right after I unboxed it, so I tried to connect it to the DJI Assistant to check or refresh the firmware. Here I have to say that when I first turned it on, it perfectly paired, but then asked me to firmware update. After that, it never paired again. Sadly, it is ENTIRELY invisible for DJI Assistant, which on the other hand can perfectly see the Mavic when I connect it, with the same cable, in the same slot in the same computer. Needless to say I tried 4 different cables and three computers (two PCs and one Mac). Always the same happens, Mavic can be seen, remote cannot.

Is there any specific way to hard reset/factory reset the remote?

A little help would be super appreciated, I ran out of options, next step is to ship it back for a refund (obviously I refused to send a brand new out of the box item for 'repair' ).

I had that problem today with my controller not being detected by DJI assistant during my update.

I disconnected the controllers USB cable from the PC.
Shutdown DJI Assistant 2
Waited about 30 seconds.
Plugged back in the controller and Windows suddenly detected it and installed the driver.
After about a minute I unplugged the controller again
I started up DJI Assistant 2 and waited until it was running
then I plugged back in the USB cable and this time DJI assistant detected the controller and the widget for the controller showed up on the Assistant screen.

Other possibility is that you plugged the controller in before you installed DJI assistant. In that case windows might try to use a generic driver. You would need to locate the controller in device manager and remove the generic driver.

Hope this helps you out
Rob

Sadly nothing happened. I appreciate the advice though! Any ideas about which driver do I need to uninstall, so I can try that again from scratch? By uninstalling DJI Assistant and reinstalling it, I don't have any more luck so far.

Go into device manager
Scroll down to Universal Serial bus controllers and double click it.
Expand the screen so you can see all the devices in the folder.

Plug in the controller, turn it on and look for a new device to appear.
If you don't see it or are not certain you can do it a few times until your sure which new item appears when you plug in the controller and disappears when it is unplugged.

With the controller plugged in right click the USB device that you identified and click on "uninstall".

Disconnect the controller, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Hopefully it will pick up the right driver this time.

If not try a different PC to confirm if this is the problem and that it is not a faulty controller.

It looks like the drivers are installed as follows. Some look generic, but I don't know how else I could 'force it' to install the correct ones.

In any case, still no luck with the controller. I'll take it to work tomorrow to check it in the computer there. So, what is the correct 'safest' method to try?

Install DJI Assistant and AFTER THAT connect the controller?

I'm very disappointed, I have been expecting the Mavic for weeks, and now, before I even managed to take it off not even for once, I have to wait for another month to see if they will process full refund on a DoA piece.

Yes instal DJI assistant then reboot the pc and then run it again and connect the controller.

It's also possible that your remote is no longer paired to your Mavic properly

So I tried two more (yes, really) computers at work, and there is always one driver that cannot successfully be installed, giving me the following prompt:

Sadly, I cannot really do anything about it, as in the Device Manager no problem appears, so I cannot locate what is it, other than 'Unidentified Device'. I checked a few of USB controllers that appear when the controller is in, and tried to force-update these with what's in the Folder "Drivers" of the DJI Assistant, but still no luck.

Controller still cannot be seen by computer, and of course, still doesn't pair. I'm kind of losing my patience, and of course running out of free time to deal with all this. I'm gonna do one last desperate attempt, to downgrade the firmware on Mavic, just in case it agrees with whatever version is stuck in the remote. If (or better, 'when') this fails, I'll just ship it back for refund.

Now the question is, try to order another Mavic, or go to a Phantom 4 Pro? Do you think it will be even slightly more reliable? I love the small size, but I want my drone to be there when I need it, and could tolerate carrying a heavier and bigger bag if this is what it takes.

What OS are you running? I use Windows 7 64bit Ultimate.
I think returning your mavic and getting a P4P is not going to solve your problem. The driver is the problem and you need to fix that. I am useless when it comes to Win10. I hate the OS because of the spyware. If its Win7 I might be able to help.

I'm running Win7/64bit., but I tried it also on a Mac. I'm convinced it's not due to the computer, as, including today's attempts, I've tested 5 PCs (all running Win7-64) and one Mac, all with same results. Probably the controller is somehow bricked during the failed firmware update. Like I said, initially out of the box it paired immediately with the Mavic and the iPhone, but then right away it asked me for firmware update, and I sadly went ahead and did it, getting stuck at some point and having to turn off and on again. After that, they never paired again.

Also, during the update, the Mavic was literally 'frying'. I don't know if this is known to be regular.

Returning it for a refund is the only way due to the despicable policy of replacements, as if I want a replacement I'll need to wait for about 3-4 weeks. I just wish they were a bit more flexible with DoA cases.
