Just worth noting that iMovie can be a steepish learning curve
It's not difficult and it does work in a fairly logical order but it can be frustrating.

Shotcut is also a freebie for Mac too, been using the windows version so far and quite happy, though a steep learning curve for a non-editor, but plenty of you tube help

Davinci resolve 14 is free and a great editing tool.

Whats the best file type to record on the Mavic for iMovie editing? .MOV or .AVI ........

I record in MP4 but either would work okay.
There is no major difference,MOV is basically Apples version (branding if you like) of MP4.
