An illegal flying stunt of a group of four drones caused more than 60 flights to get disrupted on Friday — the third such incident in a week.

More than 10,000 passengers were left stranded.

According to a report by China News Service, Chengdu's Shuangliu International Airport received reports of four drones flying within the protected zone of the airport, with one even passing below an incoming flight.

Some 58 flights ended up getting diverted to other nearby airports, with four others forced to return, and more than 10 cancelled, on the day.

One person was arrested for illegal drone flying on Saturday, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to local government organizations, flying model airplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles are banned 10km (6 miles) away from the centerline of the runways, and 20km from the end of runways at civil airports.

Chinese authorities have been cracking down on the illegal use of drones, and further enforcing regulations and guidelines on drone flying.

Flying drones could pose a threat to safety as they could easily be sucked into an engine, or crash against the plane.

It's not just Chinese airports that have been plagued by drones as of late.

Flights were suspended shortly in Ireland's Cork Airport last week after a drone was sighted flying over the airfield, despite the airport being the first on the island to launch a specific "no drone zone" within 4.5km of the airfield.

Agree with it being angering, but it's not just noobs that can fly irresponsibly. Look at YouTube. Skill level isn't the only factor in being an ***.

Skill level is absolutely Irrelevant, it's the action.

People who fly around airports should be arrested, their drones confiscated and slapped with a fine that they think twice ever to buy a drone again.

However, it will be no matter what we do. Accidents will happen. Hobby Drone technology is prone to failure. Look at how many of us get killed by cars worldwide. 1.25 million /year, that is far over 3000 per day !
This is mainly by drivers who have gone through driving schools and have a licence. Strange enough nobody calls for a ban of cars. If only 0.01% of that number would get killed by hobby drones every day, they would indeed be banned.

Like learning driving, scuba diving, boating, sailing, parachuting, hang gliding you have to go to schools to be able to enjoy these sports. You need to have a licence.
In the end it will be the same with flying RC aircraft like our Quadcopters.
There are just too many of us out there who have in the beginning absolutely no idea what they are doing, its pure trial and error and that really should change. Drone flight schools will be a profitable new business of the future. There will be different categories for drones like may be under 2 kg, 10 kg and over 10 kg. Drone flight instructor will be a good new job.
