I'm an American Expat living near Bangkok. I waited two months for a Mavic Pro to become available here. I am loving every minute with it! I've watched just about every YouTube video posted and read all sorts of guides. This forum really helps too!

I am planning a few trips to some nearby historical sites, Wats and beaches! Wish I could fly along Soi Cowboy! (Google it)

FYI. I noticed an update for DJI GO 4 dated 23 Jan 2017. I installed it and all my previous problems with my Samsung S7 Edge (Android 7) and the app disappeared! I was using Litchi because the previous version crashed every time! Fingers crossed DJO GO 4 works.

Hello,
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Mavic Pilots forum.
I hope that you will be able to use the forum to further your safety knowledge and for the exchange of innovative ideas and as a resource for
current developments in Mavic quadcopter’s. Read the manual a few times and watch lots of Youtube videos on the subject to give yourself a good start.
Enjoy! Thumbswayup

Welcome to DronePilots newest forum . :)

Flying through Bangkok on a holiday and am wondering where is best to buy a mavic pro?

Also - do they sell them in Apple Store, like they do in Australia?

Thanks!

Hi mate i am in BKK mostly and you can fly over soi cowboy you just need the right take off spot. Lumpini park is a no go at the boating lake but the guard told me if he cant see me he wont be looking for me. So i moved to the other side where some works are going on and flew for an hour without a single problem i got some great if very amateur stuff of the skyscrapers..

now the river all the hotels on the asiatique side have asked that you dont fly drones which is a shame as they have the ultimate in launch sites for the bridges etc. But on the opposite bank where there are very few hotels mainly condos there are some very secluded and easily accesible sites with floating jettys of concrete that are perfect.

Asiatique at night ok so i used the car park opposite where the whole of asiatique paarks. i stopped my car next to a 5 meter sqaure area with barriers for the police and security to sit.

perfect i walked in as it was empty with no police or security and launched straight from the car park. it is then 300 m to Asiatique. Be very careful if you do this as there are some circa 700 feet tall buildings ahead of you from the car park, and at night if you lose sight of the drone you will have problems if you don't fly the exact same route back as you went from.

Asiatique at night was the best flight so far for me.

I would suggest though that to get the perfect Asiatique flight you travel to the opposite bank and find a quiet spot. This way you are flying only over the river no buildings etc and are actually going to get great footage of the front side of Asiatique. i never got that from the car park as i did not want to take any risk i did not think acceptable for me. I wanted to keep well away from the BKK wheel. also i made sure i was flying over the covered buidings of asaitique. not over open crowds down there as it gets very busy at weekends..

Bangkok is still quite drone friendly as it happens, if you are asked not to fly then don;t i was asked twice not to fly once at the hotel and once at Lumpini as i said i even took off from the Polices own security area. (that was awesome ha ha ). they could see me but no one really took any notice except to watch the drone go up and way. As soon as she was in the air and flying everyone carried on as normal.

that was all done on Sunday

Aprili will be filming in Rayong on Koh Samed i have a month off work will go drive to Rayong then maybe to Issan then down to Cambodian border. i will just do a one week road trip purely for fun i will not worry too much about video quality etc i will concentrate on the massive wide open areas that go for miles and have some fun pushing her out a little further than you can normally.

You can take a look at my crap video skills here but it gives you an idea of what you face in BKK

Thank you for the great reply! I met a couple Thai P4P owners who live near me. Bumped into one while purchasing my Mavic Pro at Zeer Rangsit. The other members are senior professors (PhD) at a large university. It really helps to have a native speaker to clear the way to fly. We have formed a small "DJI SkyFly Club" and coordinate trips using LINE. Spent one day (two stops to recharge batteries) at Ayutthaya. One member obtained a permit to fly over the ancient city for 1000 baht! We also like visit many of the Wats in the area. The Monks don't seem to mind (if you ask) and show them some video. Just got back from a couple days at Koh Samet (near Rayong) and planning to take my Mavic up north for Songkran. Check DJI SkyFly (Thailand) on Facebook. Nothing formal, just a platform to share information.

I just received another text (19 March) from THAI HOBBY (Phone: 0891344988) for the Mavic Pro - 42,300 baht. HobbyThai.com (ฮ๊อบบี้ไทย). No "real" Apple stores here, so no DJI products yet.

I purchased my Mavic Pro Fly More Pack at Zeer Rangsit (just outside and NE of Bangkok) for 55,000 baht. Prices seem pretty consistent. There are several DJI dealers in Bangkok but inventory for the Mavic Pro is limited. I am noticing more accessories in shops and online.

Consider purchasing the DJI Refresh (online) if you have support in Australia. I think you have 48 hours after your purchase to get it. No official DJI support or repair shops in Thailand. Repair is done by SYNNEX company. My gimbal wheel was stuck and cost 1200 baht and three days to fix.

Thailand is a great place to fly your drone. Many curious (not paranoid) people here wanting to know more about drones!

Hi,

I regularly fly in Thailand but looking to travel out to the more rural areas soon and explore with the Mavic.

Great for you meet up with the locals and get access to some good places, it really is about who you know when you fly in Thailand.

Short video of a recent trip to Samet with my Phantom..
take it easy.

Thanks!!

I lived there for a few years, at the moment visit 2-3 times a year but maybe back to live later this year. Wanna try and visit for Songkran next month..

Best wishes! I plan to take my Mavic up north for Songkran. I just need to find a little Mavic raincoat first!!

haha.. i think you do need some kind of protection during the splash season!

I would love to head up to Mae Hong Son & into the hills of Chaing Rai with the Mavic..

I hope to get to Doi Suthep (Chiang Mai) next month. Flying to Hawaii in May for a short business trip. I need to check the no-fly areas and local regulations. I hope to record some lanterns during Loi Krathong. Might be a challenge flying amongst 100's of paper lanterns fueled by burning wax! New Year's at Pattaya this year was subdued out of respect for the King. Next year should be crazy again!

great video cant wait to be back there. I miss my family a lot over there.

like i say drone heaven. I have driven around 20 thousand miles around Thailand but never had the drone now i gotta do another twenty Thousand ti get everything i missed,

i own a travel company that specialises in Thailand and Russia and will be opening a new website soon, so i will be looking to get some footage now to upload to the new website and also a dedicated FB Travel page for the company,. I am not after cinema quality footage, but i do want to show Thailand to our clients so they can see exactly what they are getting when they go over.

we just got permission from the Foreign office to expand into Russia and i have a few people (guides etc ) that work for my Thai office. So hopefully we will launch in Rusia in around 8 weeks with the new website.

I will be over again in three weeks yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Gary cato, I just see your post today. I live in Bangkok, have no car, but like to fly my Mavic Pro. Recently I flew at the royal horse racing course, near Yomarat.
But they prohibit me last week to fly there.

Wish we could meet somewhere and talk about our hobbies. Don't know how to contact you, I don't want to give my phone number here...
