I posted the same link. Kinda lame people think this is illegal. More than likely the drone took off from a boat and was landed back on a boat which would not violate any park rules.

Sure a boat launch is probably the correct assumption, but someone has already provided links to FAA showing that this is also a temporary no fly zone.

In what way are they thinking flying the phantom near the lava was hazardous.
Surely the only risk was to the drone.

In addition to being illegal, the drone's flight was hazardous.
"When the lava makes contact with the water, it hardens quickly and chunks of rock shoot up every couple of seconds," said Studer.

Using drone sounds like a great way to make recording it less haradous.
Seems llike anything showing drones in a negative way is printed without question.
No one was being disturbed with the background noise of waves and steam.

The no fly zone was due to risk to full-size aircraft, it is a technicality to apply this equally to what amounts to a toy helicopter which is not risking anything significant if it gets near.
