New Pilots from Banbury, Oxfordshire, England

Hello all

We're two new pilots from near Banbury (yes, home of the nursery rhyme and, yes, there really is a cross and we do have a fine lady on her horse) in Oxfordshire

We only purchased our Mavic yesterday - we've spent lots of time on these forums researching, so thank you all for that. The final clincher on the decision was a full flight demo and some very knowledgable advice in the Birmingham Apple Store, so thank you to the guys there, it really was service above and beyond

Yesterday was windy, so we only did a low level practice flight

Today, one of us (the other is flying out of Heathrow) has managed an aerial shot of our house. We're right on the edge of a village, so can fly over fields to do that, and it doesn't seem to meet the definition of a congested area

So, lots to learn, tentative first steps

I am in Oxford, so let me know if you fancy a meet up to fly.

Best advice is to use the NATS Drone Assist App. It shows you where you can fly in your area along with any NOTAM's. For example there's a NOTAM in place for the Oxford area right now due to an airshow and weather balloon release!

You can also use it to file a flight plan via the app which alerts other flyers in the area that you're in the air.

All part of flying safely.
