A bit anticipating to get my mavic before chinese new year so I can send it up to catch some fireworks at night.

can anyone give me the perfect settings to achieve a great video record for this situation? thanks in advance..

Thanks for the video, looks awesome can't wait to try this with mine. I was wondering how it would work at night.

Ok, took a look..

for those who just want to jump straight to the settings without having to watch the video, this is the settings recommended in the vid.

Shutter speed = 1/50
ISO = 1600
video Rec = 4k at 24 FPS.

Enjoy guys, can't wait for my Mavic to arrive... hopefully before CNY.. Cheers y'all

Hi. Here is a video I shot with my P4 (sorry, didn't have my Mavic yet as it was not available for sale). However, the camera on the P4 is very similar to the Mavic so this should give an idea of what the Mavic can do at night. What I did was shoot first in Auto to get a baseline on the settings. Then I switched to Manual (I am a photographer so I am well versed in how to use the aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc...) and play with the settings until I see what I like. The key being to know that the sensor in the Mavic and P4 are not optimized for night shooting. In fact they are terrible, however it is what it is and you have to make the best of what you are working with. In the video post processing make sure you move your contrast a bit to the right to try and hide digital as much as possible. Try not to over saturate but boost enough color so that your fireworks "pop". Hope this helps... Here is the video:

p.s. I am not a videographer so your mileage may vary.

Nice vid....

whats the camera settings you used on your P4?

Crap. I forgot. I need to check them. I will get back to you when I can pull up Final Cut Pro X.

No worries... I havent gotten my mavic yet so I'm not in a terribly big hurry..

Final Cut Pro X... been hearing about that alot in regards to Mavic Pro video footage thingies.. is that a windows Software for video editing?

Final Cut Pro X is a Mac only software. For Windows you can use Adobe Premier which is equally as good. Both have much shallower learning curves than some of the free software (Davinci) to name one. You can look online for some LUT (Look up tables) for color grading and effects. The key to remember is that the software you use is going to be better than the hardware you use, so no matter how much you want the Mavic's sensor to perform, it just can't but you will be able to get some pretty good quality. Experiment and get to know the limitations and you will be fine.

I'm not a fan of unboxing videos or gear porn but enjoy. It is amazing what is in such a small box. You will be truly happy.

They have their uses.. Its what got me so hooked on the mavic in the first place..

Too bad I can only afford the basic package, not the combo one.. but oh well..

Basic or combo. You will have in your hot little hands a very capable device that still leaves me giddy when I look at the size and all it can do. You are gonna love it. Get some ND filters by the way. They will help with your video.

Whoa whoa, my friend.. one step at a time... suggest any more items for my hot little flying friend and you may hear news of some stupid asian who tried to rob a bank to get some ND filters... LOL

If I may suggest: ND filters, an extra battery or two, You can get by with this and be happy for quite a while.
