What do people use to clip (not render) their videos?

I am starting to learn Resolve but sometimes all I want to do is shave an mp4 down to just a small portion of the video without having to re-render it. When I use Resolve it seems to re-render and sometimes downgrades the color to a bit-depth that introduces noise during fade outs. I know that if I want fade-outs, I'll have to render but what are you all using to simply cut an mp4 vid down in length?
