    Spark to Mavic Pro Transition

Thanks for the input. As I said initially, I really want the waypoint mission capability and prob Litchi compatibility.

    Spark to Mavic Pro Transition

I am seriously contemplating adding a Mavic Pro to my drone stable (of 1 Spark). I want the longer flight times, better communications, and the ability to use waypoint mission software. I am not particularly interested in the Mavic 2 series both for cost and newness concerns. Any advice would be...

400 foot from AGL or from pilot?

You would be interested to see what happens when you launch from the top of the canyon, say from top of cliff, etc. Your RTH altitude can be set to where you get yourself in trouble if you move.

    "Flying the Pattern"

I also do the same thing as you. More so from my past experiences as a private pilot. Its more interesting and provides some good motor skills reinforcement. Anybody can hit a RTH button and get back safely but I enjoy flying the drone to a landing.

    Airports in Alaska

Well Rickjensen1, most of the aircraft in Alaska ARE "little guys" as you put it. Secondly, a vast majority of the "airports" have no on-airport communications so you would almost be better off with an aviation band hand-held radio so you could at least monitor the local traffic IF they are...

    couple newb questions

And I currently fly a Spark so you can imagine how quickly that can get lost from view. I am following this forum with an eye toward upgrading to a Mavic Pro soon. Thanks for the replies and any advice re Mavic Pro vs any other is welcome.

    couple newb questions

Touche' You get a point for my confusion. The 400' restriction is under Part 107. I did also mention Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) and that IS a rule under Part 336. Simply, I do not think that maintaining VLOS at 1500 ft in altitude or horizontal distance is likely with an object the size of a Mavic.

    couple newb questions

As far as my flight activities are concerned, that is exactly what I am stating. I speak for no one but myself and was stating nothing more than a couple of the rules. In response to the Ferrari analogy, why buy a Ferrari when you know the posted speed limit (again, the law) in the US is 70 mph...

    couple newb questions

So, if you are flying in the USA, your "legal" ceiling is 400 ft and "Visible Line of Sight". It couldn't be any simpler than that. Pushing or blatantly violating those numbers is how we get further restricted from doing something we enjoy, or worse.

    MP Landing on Mars

How could that be Mars, there isn't a Tesla Roadster in the picture?

Mavic, Mavic Pro, Mavic Pro Platinum? Can of Worms?

I am currently flying my very first drone, a Spark, given to me for Christmas in 2017. I was shocked and totally stoked because I have researched and salivated over owning a drone. My daughter, giver of said drone, now wants to know if I would rather have a Mavic Air? I have read what there is...
