My only comment to your story is that DJI does on occasion have to deal with a load of legit oem merch going missing and ending up on Ebay. So, their policy helps them with that as opposed to just knock offs.
Yes, that has been the case for many years. If you purchase a drone in Canada (for example), you'll have to take it back to Canada to get any work done under warranty.
My understanding is that DJI's long-standing policy has always limited their warranty coverage to the country where the drone was originally purchased. I gleaned this from a couple of posts earlier in this discussion.
DJI is not gonna spend the time and money making their Drones unflyable in the U.S.
let the U.S. government waste the time and money, if they don't want DJI Drones here.
