The amps wont be too high, the connected device limits the current flow to what is needed. The voltage will be too low though (12.6 volts open circuit, less under load) , have you considered using your mains power adapter with an inverter on the battery??
I'll be using my 600 Watt 12v DC to 240v AC inverter with the standard charger to charge mine when away from home.
A fully charged 12V battery should have 12.6V (2.1V per cell x 6 cells).
The Apple Store in Australia only took $1 as a pre-order deposit so I can handle the wait.
I feel for the guys who had to pay big deposits or the whole amount, and I can see why they're getting pissed off with the extra wait.
