I am really happy to see so many members who are in their 60's, 70's and even 80's, buying and actively flying their drones. I have been into model flying for almost 50 years, and when I started, it seemed that the RC demographic was age 60 and under. Anyone older than 60 seemed to be just supporting or teaching someone younger how to fly and tune their birds.

I keep thinking and seeing that age 60 is the new 40. With Lasik available for the eyes, open heart surgery as a routine, and a range of medications to improve quality of life and life extension, we are living longer and healthier lives.

I welcome all new members here to the forum and drone world, and kudos to those of you in their 60's and over who are first starting out with drones. Your life experiences and wisdom are very welcome here.

Happy holidays ands best regards,

Rob

And best of all....Viagra! :D

Well, I'm 68 and been a biker (motorcycle) all my life (as well as design engineer). I've been retired for almost 14 years, and the thing that has been most revealing is that most of the retired people that I know haven't shown much sign of slowing down. Since retirement, I took up banjo playing, and now flying my drone. Just finished building our house up here in the NC mountains, and I do a lot of woodworking. Sure, things hurt that didn't used to hurt, but I plow through. In my mind I'm still 21!

63, ridden motorcycles since I was 19, software engineer still working in the wireless industry. Kids grown and out the door and I’m on my own now. Life is awesome.

Just getting into Drones and really enjoy taking my Air on long MC trips. The ability to take pics and vids in 3D space is so cool. I get to see things that I couldn’t with a DLSR at ground level. It’s learning all over again plus now I’m getting serious about videos. This is a really amazing experience I’m going to pass on to my kids when I get better.

Downside? Now I want to retire so I can spend more time doing this, but can’t. Thank goodness for lots of banked personal time, a fast MC for touring and living in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State).

Seems like alot of us are also bikers. I gave up my Goldwing, Springer Softail, ST1200 and K1200GT for a Burgman 650. It could do 80 in the left lane 2 up, fully loaded.

Agreed. Wondering if we’re profiling? :) 2012 K1300S with a few mods, Ninja 1000 for daily driver - looking at a R1200/R1250GS or GSA since I’ve ridden most of the paved roads in the Western US and Canada.

The Air works perfect for me right now - from a “fit in luggage” perspective. However, the MP2Pro might be my first non-BMW accessory.

Great bikes. Kinda like a dirt bike on steroids.

The M2P would be a good choice as an upgrade. Its certainly cheaper than any BMW OEM accessory! I remember paying $600 for a pair of hard bags for my 98 K1200RS.

No kidding. One think I’d love to get better at is having the drone follow me on the bike - albeit the speed is just not there to do it justice. The challenge is less about seeing the bike and more about getting the scenery in while riding. GoPro mounted is fine, but a drone would be, well, really something.

Well, the M2 can get up to around 35-40mph safely, and thats a good speed to follow with if you are on an open stretch of road with no obstacles.

I am 57 years old and had ridden motorcycles since 16 years of age and have been to 37 states on my motorcycle. I destroyed both my shoulders in an industrial accident and sold my motorcycle last July as I had not ridden it since my accident and most likely never will.

Being bored and watching drone videos I figured I would give it a try. It allows me to go places I am unable to go due to my injuries! I live 20 miles south of Boston and it is frustrating finding legal places to fly around here! I wish there was other drone owners near me to learn and find scenic places to fly.

It's hard to find places to fly sometimes in metro areas. There might be a place within a few miles that you didnt know about that would be ideal for you, you just have to find it.

Sorry to hear about your accident and not being able to ride. I completely understand the loss you must feel. It's good you weren't killed.

I, too, had a bad accident a while back. I was hit head on by a drunk driver who was doing doing 100 mph. Glad it's behind me but still carry remnants of it around with me. Lucky I wasn't on one of my bikes at the time.

I'm 64 and last owned a motorcycle in 1976, a Kawasaki 250 triple, which followed a BSA bantam.. I've had vehicles with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 cylinders, and my ride-on mower has 5hp less than my first car, an Austin A40....
Eachine H8 is great fun and a great learning tool, Phantom 3 pro and a Mavic for 'real' play. We have plenty of ruins here in Ireland for my droning delectation, and usually no-one about them too..

Agreed and I have spent more time driving around looking for "the spot" than actually flying. There is still a lot of negativity with drones around my area. Before I fly I always inform people what I will be doing and that I will be flying safely and according to all laws. And if someone still has an issue, I don't fly?

Wasn't bad enough to kill me (only about 6 feet) but enough to destroy 2 tendons in my right shoulder and all of them in the left (needing a graft). I have been on the computer an hour and my hands are going numb. It would be funny if it didn't hurt so much but most things it looks like I am a dinosaur with 2 stubby arms (elbows tucked in hard to limit pain)

It is hard to explain to some people how losing a hobby I have done for 41 years and can no longer do has really affected my life. Don't get me wrong I am not looking for sympathy as many people and soldiers have it much worse than me.

64 here and also rode for many years. My latest rig was a Yamaha 650 with a Velorex sidecar. Unfortunately, had to sell it last year for health reasons. I've been trying to convince the wife we need a rag top so we can at least get back in the wind.

I know how you feel as well.

My main hobies were flying GA aircraft and SCUBA diving. Also sailing my trailer sailer. All are now not possible due to health problems, though i still have hopes of getting back in the water with my diving gear. Old age sucks bit have recently discovered drones.
