Air 2s footage lacks that “pop”

I am pretty much a total beginner when it comes to video editing.
The above footage was shot in dlog, I then added some vid range and saturation, then added the dlog to rec 709 lut.

Good so far, you can now proceed with color work. What editor are you working with?

Or, you could skip filming in dLog for a while, and get comfortable doing color work on Normal and HLG footage to get started.

Where to start is a question for you to answer for your own learning. There are many who would advise “dLog is the best, everyone should start there!” I myself think it’s more important to start with settings and workflows that are accessible, and give you joy, support inspiration, AND pop!

Don't freak out. For a color grade from someone new to the process it looks pretty good. I use Davinci Resolve and use a managed color space with DJI d-log assigned as the source color space. From there it's been a lot of self study on the net and a lot of trial and error. It's a process. If you enjoy the challenge you will get it figured out. If you watch a true colorist there are a ton of tiny tweaks that add up to a finished look. I'm not at that level yet but more key to me I enjoy the challenge and the process of learning.

I am not a colour specialist but perhaps a slower, shorter pan might have allowed the eye to dwell a little longer on the scenery. Good luck with your future work.

This is all excellent advice...follow it! I also agree with twickers14, a much slower pan would have been better. Just keep at it. You'll know if it looks good or not the more you experiment.

With the caveat that my current monitor is not super great, I'd say the footage is a pretty underexposed and could use a bump in contrast. Saturation/color looks okay though.

Like your effort at coloring. It's a big wide wonderful world out there and I would love to show it all but I'm just not a fan of a pan shot.
