This lift bridge was built in 1931, it replaced a swinging bridge that was built in 1875. It spans the St Croix River at MN-Wisc border. Used for pedestrians only

Nice presentation and footage of bridge functioning.
Interesting concept. Do they always lift to max height or just to accommodate each approaching vessel ?
I guess not, as if it were lower than max a following vessel could be a problem.
