With the Mavic having such great automatic features the new owner can go from box to flying in hours.
Right until that first switch into ATI mode. If you are new to the RC world you don't know what you don't know.
When I learned to fly RC aircraft we had a buddy box and when I lost control my instructor let me work to get back in control if I did not he took over.Seems a some of the flyaways and crashes are caused by not bad pilots but inexperienced pilots.

You can always buy a second controller for training. A very underrated feature in my opinion. It's also nice for involving someone else as just a observer.

My best guess is that the most dangerous time might be after you've flown enough to get confident and somewhat familiar with the machine. Then you tend to start experimenting, adventuring, and doing things that you would not have done when you were more aware of your limitations. A good scare at this point would serve you well.
