Black Screen on Smart Controller when using at another location

My Smart Controller on my Mavic 2 Pro works fine in area where I live but this weekend when I attempted to use it at my son's house 300 miles away, I would get a black screen. The sounds I got from pressing certain buttons indicated the controller and software was functional. I get home today, the SC works fine. Latest software and firmware is installed.. Any thoughts?

Did you call tech support to ask them to tell you to try turning it off and on again?

You may have to download the map for that area , that is the only thing that comes to mind.

Are you connected to wifi or hotspot on your phone during flight? Although that would only help with the map display box. Are you saying there's no camera view and the entire display is black That would be very strange indeed.
