DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Recreational/personal use in a trip to Africa for 2 months.

What is the absolute cheapest insurance option for such use? I only need the insurance to show to the local authorities, nothing more.

I would go with AMA membership , Membership includes $2,500,000 personal liability insurance coverage, $25,000 Medical Coverage – AD&D Policy ($10,000 Death Benefit), $1,000 Fire, Theft and Vandalism Coverage, PLUS access to low-cost commercial liability insurance.s.

did you read my post?

i am looking for the ***cheapest*** thing that resemble a drone insurance for 2 months, so have something to show at the border when entering with a drone.

Don’t think AMA Insurance would work outside the US but not sure.

Then maybe contact Africa and see what they
require. Then go from there.

Your trip might cost you more than you think because of the new variants of Covid-19. Here in the UK, if you're returning from South Africa, other southern African countries, and certain east African countries, you'll be escorted by the authorities to a hotel for 10 days of isolation. The cost per person which you'll have to pay? Probably around £1,500. So, if there's two of you, that's an extra £3,000. And this pandemic will continue to have disruptive effects for many months still to come (at least).

The UK is certainly not the first country to do this. (Think Australia, for one example. Although China led the way.) More will follow. And there's growing evidence that the South African strain is more deadly and possibly (at least partly) resistant to the vaccines.

I'm probably the person on this forum most familiar with "Africa" (a term I almost never use because it's so vague unless referring the whole of the continent). Depending upon which countries you'll be travelling to, please be very mindful of local regulations - and cultural sensitivities in some countries. Ignorance is never a legal defence, anywhere in the world. Then there's theft. In Cape Town, or whilst up Table Mountain - two world-famous tourists destinations - you'd be surprised how many people are mugged or killed every single year just for a smartphone. A Mavic 2 Pro or any drone will be a "good day's work".

Some people think that nothing will ever happen to them. "I'll be okay." Wrong. I've twice seen a drone confiscated at Dubai on arrival. And I've worked in an African country literally more times than I've posted on this forum.

Total agree with AW's reply. I also lived in Southern Africa for many years and worked throughout the continent as a professional musician. Don't assume that in some countries the published rules are necessarily the ones that are adhered to at border crossings and airports. Sad to say that a 'greasing of palms' is an acceptable, if not required, practice in some areas.

You need to keep your wits about you; 10 years in Joburg makes you very attentive to your surroundings.

anyone has an actual answer to the original post?
AMA membership starts at 38 dollars per year for a park flyer, and that includes 500,000 liability insurance. You'd have to check if the insurance covers operations outside the USA, and I believe it does not cover commercial operations, but if you're just looking for "the cheapest thing that resembles drone insurance", that may not matter so much to you.

Thank you.
It is not clear from their website if a membership gives a worldwide insurance coverage. If you have such a policy, can you please look it up?
