Flying over some trees about 100 yards away in sport mode.
A good 20 yards above them.
Not looking at the screen but watching drone when all of a sudden hundreds of birds appear from no where.
Didn't panic as they seemed well above me then all hell let loose
They seemed to be wanting to go in the trees that I was flying over.
They descend towards the drone and all I could do was drop it down.
In a split second it had crashed.
Oh dear I say to myself.
Walk to where it was and turned on the bleep in the find my drone
Could here it easily.
Walked through a load of stinging nettles only to find it 20 odd feet up a tree overhanging a small river.
Oh dear I said to myself.

In the water I go which was just below ball depth if you no what i mean lol.
Beeped it again the put on landing light.
As it's now getting dark I could see it easily.
Way out of reach.
Oh dear I said to myself. This isn't going to be easy.
A moments thought and decided to try and take off.
It'll either fly or fall into my hands.
Well it fell but only half way.
A good 10ft above me.
Managed to climb the tree and retrieve it.
Back on terra firma took props off and tried it.
Seemed fine
Props back on and yet again fine.
Manouvered it around the car park for a minute or two and it seems OK but now it's pitch black so back in the car.
Will try it tomorrow whoops today.
Cheers Mel

I read this out loud to my wife. We both laughed, cried, and enjoyed the read.

So sorry for your luck, but it's not all bad. My MA1 is still at the bottom of the ICW just south of NSB, FL. It's a busy fast moving channel and will likely never be recovered unless by accident or washing ashore from storm surge (hurricane-ville). It's been there over a year now.

I loved your logic though... Let's spin those props baby, see what happens!

Great story, l never heard water depth described that way before.
Anyway make sure the props aren't damaged and ya got a fully charged battery. Happy flying.

Mine was submerged below ball depth, in rising seawater, under a bridge that it had ricocheted off of, so I had to strip to my skivvies, and swim out to it, over the thick, soft nasty muck that my feet had been sinking into. Both needed a shower afterwards! Thank goodness for Refresh!

well done on your narrow escape ,darn birds, dont they know we drones have the right of way ,only joking, they were probably heading towards the tree to get ready to roost you will have to get yourself some fishing waders if you decide to fly there again

Kudos for a close call survived! I had a run in with a tree too but it was more like 17 feet up and not climbable. The things we do huh? Thanks for sharing the story.

Four spinning blades falling into your hands, I'm glad it stopped short of that.
Glad you saved it.

Shrinkage matters less at our age.... lol. Glad you retrieved it and cool that it took the beating and came out unscathed. How are your muscles today?
:eek::p

So glad to know you retrieved your MA2!

As I read your post, I was envisioning you reciting at an Open Mic Poetry Reading at a pub. Cheers to you! ?

I like drone stories with a happy ending. :) Well, hopefully it'll start back up tomorrow.

All I could think to myself is, so polite to yourself!

"Oh dear I said to myself."

I would have been swear-word laced.... ?
