Controller telemetry vs iPad Litchi telemetry

A couple of times, on a particularly long distance flight, I've noticed that my telemetry on the iPad stops while the telemetry on the RC is still updating, maybe not as fast/much but consistently. (I've noticed that even when I lose signal and regain it (off/on in a long flight) the RC quickly updates)
I thought the iPad (or Android device) was getting all of the telemetry data directly from the controller, via USB, so why would it stop on the app but continue on the RC?

The app may be doing some additional filtering on the values, in which case you'd need several successful receipts in a row for something to show while the controller just shows whatever is coming as is.

That's depending on what the app developer has decided to do.
