DJI announcement on May 15

Mavic Air 2? Phantom 5? A new product line? Let's get busy guys!

EDIT: "Your Other Side?" - what could that be? The one side that we have been using thus far with DJI drones is the air right? This is "other" so not air. That leaves land and water. Land is simply not interesting and worse you can't fly in it. That leaves water. Yup, this got to be a submersible. You can't deny the powers of deductive reasoning :p

DJI posted this thread over in the DJI forum to discuss the event. The product likely won’t be revealed there, but you never know what might be leaked.

Probably This:

Yup the image used screams water and beneath it.. the top of the image shows water surface with light coming through and the figure of the woman is clearly in swimwear and flippers.

Be nice if the released the waterproof housing for the Osmo Pocket before a new underwater product though...

Mavic Sea!

Underwater drone is a terrible idea. It has already been done and the uses are about as limited as you can get. A waterproof camera would be pointless as well. DJI's bread and butter is gimbal stabilization. Not sure that this could be done for water. Also, like it or not, the Hero 7 Black does a great job already in that area.

Underwater gimbal gyro stabilization is a great idea. Im not aware of any underwater camera that has that ability right now, but I havent been diving or shopped for diving cameras for a while.

When youre diving, its a pain to try to keep one or both hands on the housing, AND try to get a straight shot as well. Many times you cant even see what the cam is shooting, so added stabilization would be a welcome addition.

It would have to be very sturdy gimbal to work underwater. Maybe for swimming pool and lakes with minimal underwater current. Maybe not in the sea, with salt water and battering waves.
It'll need a working arm and headlights, so you can use it to retrieve your mavic when it's lost in water.

Many underwater cameras are enclosed in housings to prevent them from the elements. Youre right, if it had a gyro stabilized gimbal, the waves would be rough on the gimbal if it were not protected in some way.

A lot of people seem to think it’s going to be some type of GoPro like action camera. Here are some photos OsitaLV recently tweeted:

How about a rear camera?
It’ll be able to see the other side[emoji6]
Water Resistant, would be a helpful addition for those days that are less than perfect [emoji108]

The larger one seems to have a zoom wheel or so below the lens?

I may need to get my Hero 7 Black listed on eBay before it's worthless LOL

DJI is going to have to be careful with pricing if they get into the action camera like hero 7. That cameras best model sells at $350 most of the time, and they really have gotten good with THAT camera. It has tones of features, like voice commands. There are other brands of action cams right around that price range as well. Then there are the Sony action cameras and they can start around $550 up to $700, and they are supposed to be pretty great (so I’ve read). Now DJI has the newish hasselblad brand cameras it has access to. If it is a action cam ( I think it is also), it could be some great DJI technology that finds a spot in just the right price range. Hopefully it will not be to pricey so that the everyday customer can take advantage of the new product.

Under water would be kinda tough, radio signals don't travel very deep. Just ask any radio man in the navy
