DJI Fly

Even if is possible, the Smart Controller does not replace a Tablet. Does not have probably the processing power to do so. I do not recommend you that.

Can you edit video directly on the Smart Controller with the DJI Fly app? Was hoping to do that with my MA2.

Thanks

FLY App - Supposedly “intuitive” but hardly so. Explanation of basics Fly attributes on the iPhone interface are covered and explained perhaps well enough; at least byway of YouTube vids, But the 2nd and most important contribution of flying a drone, with a camera, is knowing how to operate the details of capturing and editing good videos and photographs. DJI fails in this most important interest of their drones, miserably entirely.
(Aside
Compass – Calibrate (unstable/shaky hover flight may be a indicator of the need to calibrate the Compass, damaged props may be another cause for shaky hover, not counting the squall force winds underway).

Always shows “Calibrate”, for both Compass and IMU. This is a means to opt to initiate calibration, rather than an indication of preflight advisement to do so. Suggestion: Initiate calibration when the drone has been subject to hard jolts, if it has been more than 30 days since last flight, or when advised to do so by the Fly App. It has been suggested or said that “I”, calibrate Compass and IMU prior to each flight period. There's no reason not to do so; doesnt hurt; and, theres no DJI warning opposing it. If itz been awhile, itz not a wrong idea. Is the ever present “Calibrate” a subtle undisclosed advisement to do so?

IMU – Calibrate (unstable/shaky hover flight may be a indicator of the need to calibrate the IMU, damaged props may be another cause for shaky hover)

A 2nd main feature of immediate interest is; What is AE and EV or ISO and FPS shown lower right in either Auto or Manual camera modes respectively? These video and still photography mode aspects are without explanation in neither beginner nor complete user guides; as well as, the (pdf) User Manual. Are DJI Drones meant for experienced Videographer and Photographers whose 2nd nature are obscure acronymns; and inexperienced interests shud stick with disposable toys. And why is it that DJI Mini 2 User Manual.pdf is locked from editing? Id like to add the, learned the hard way, details of features that DJI has failed to include. If asked, Id love to say my DJI Drones is better that sliced bread but surely cant praise their manuals and guides,

[DJI Fly App: User Guide for Mavic Mini / Mavic Air 2 - DJI Guides
This guide covers everything that you need to know about the DJI Fly app for Mavic Mini and Mavic Air 2, including the main features, functions, and various settings within the DJI app..”]
The 3rd main feature of immediate interest is video editing. Here is what's found from the above linked “everything you need to know...”, “complete-user-guide...”. Ive a couple, paid for, video editor programs aboard, lacking a known existing DJI editor in the past.
[“DJI Fly App: Professional Drone Video Editing Software

DJI Fly app’s built-in Editor interface includes multiple video templates, music options, special effects, and other useful features to help make editing your photos and videos quick and easy. The drone video editing software features an intuitive video timeline interface with multi-track editing capability for quick and easy modifications to your footage.
The DJI video editor also allows you to adjust the screen orientation of your footage between Portrait and Landscape so you can view your footage the way you think is best.”]
So where is the video editor interface? No mention here in the “complete-user-guide...”
Well lookie there, the “beginner-guide” goes above and beyond the “complete-user-guide...

[DJI Mavic Mini Beginner Guide: First Flight Tips (with video) - DJI GuidesEditing and Sharing DJI Mavic Mini video
To edit your Mavic Mini videos using DJI Fly app, tap “Album,” and then tap the edit icon in the bottom left of the screen. In the Edit screen, you will have access to a wide variety of templates, music, and sound effects, as well as multi-track video editing, text editing, and more. From here, you can share your creation across social media with ease. DJI Fly app’s new editor is perfect for super-fast editing and sharing, whether it’s a shot for your Instagram, a family photo for Facebook, or an aerial masterpiece for SkyPixel.]
I guess itz intuitive to “tap Album”? I should have known, though some thought about including, tap “Album” in the complete-guide would have actually made it a tiny bit more complete. It was thought fit to do so in the beginner-guide. The complete .pdf User Manual does elaborate a pinch more about video editing, but hardly worth a pat on back.
[DJI Fly App: Camera View

Whether you are brand new to flying drones or a seasoned professional, Camera View has everything you need to have a safe, fun flight experience from takeoff to landing.] Again the “complete-guide” again fails miserably in explaining camera settings.
Litchi App
DJI Fly has no Waypoint flight programming. Unless again buried under an obscure stone, Waypoints track programming is relegated to a third party, in this case Litchi has an inside track.

Litchi App – Litchi is an after market replacement application for the DJI Fly App. Waypoints is the most important feature of the Litchi app. Im unaware of where Litchi App is otherwise a better interface than the Fly App. Waypoint flying is autonomous flight between programmed consecutive points. Litchi is a reasonable one time purchase price of $XX. Updates are provided at no additional charge from Litchi.

It is not likely that the Mini 2 will have full feature Litchi support until Spring 2021. The Mavic Air 2 will not likely see full support until late Winter 2021. Im hoping for a full rich product by then. Litchi has received the SDK for the MA2 but not yet for the MM2. Full support timing are my guesses.

YouTube Videos has become the substitute for DJI guides and manuals. Itz saaad where the manufacturer, DJI, shirks their duty and leaves it to “Buyer be Ware” and “Consider the Source”. But, there are considerable videos on youtube.com that skim the essence of capturing videos and photographs including some that address the camera Auto/Manual manipulations EV/AE & FPS/iso of settings for better image capture.

Compass out of calibration won't yield shaky flight but rather either slow uncommanded yaw or just plain goes nuts. Same with takeoff under conditions with external magnetic interference at launch point.

Which brings me to point out that Calibration of the compass frequently can actually be a bad thing if you started out with an excellent calibration but then calibrated with interference.
