Dji goggles UBS connector splitter when using mavic air

Does anyone know why a UBS splitter cannot be used out of the contol to send the signal to both the goggles and an iPhone so both devices get the feed from the drone.

Because it's a digital connection sharing digital information, not an analogue source. In general you can't simply split a digital connection with a basic Y connector because often the contents of the digital connection is two way communications protocol requiring synchronisation between the two devices.

While the USB specification allows daisy chaining that's assuming that the port on the bottom of the controller actually implements the full USB specification rather than just the bits it needs.
