Does a tablet have to have GPS to work?

Your drone has a perfectly good GPS receiver that it uses for all flight functions.
The Galaxy Tab A also has GPS but the only flight functions that can use GPS from your tablet are:
Follow-me flight
Resetting the home point to the current location of the controller.

Check how much RAM your Tab A has ... it varies.
The App is very demanding and really needs 4GB of RAM to run properly.

Having GPS in your tablet isn't important.
But almost all Android devices have GPS anyway.
It's only Apple that leave GPS out of their wifi only iPads.

I use the Galaxy Tab A. Works great.

Buy a longer cable as the one supplied is not long enough.... I wanted to fly immediately and to do so meant that I would have to take my phone out of its protective case every time, and a tablet over 7" is simply too big unless you buy a separate mount on Amazon...… I bought a prepaid Android at Best Buy a Cricket... also note that not all tablets have the proper USB connection although most name brands do...
