Does anyone sell their photos/freelance? If so, what platforms do you recommend.

Hi All,

Just got me FAA certified 107 pilot license and looking to start doing some freelancing work or sell some photos to build a portfolio and get some side income on Pond5, shutterstock, videoblocks, etc. Does anyone have any luck selling on these platforms and what are some troubles you may have using them.

Also wanted to get into the freelancing game and start taking some requests. Do any of you use fiverr, upwork, or anything to get some side work.

Wanted to get some feedback on using this platforms and what's the best to use and what are some gripes everyone has had.

Thanks in advance!

Good luck with that.
I tried and finally made a sale after two years.
Despite what the stock agency said about minimum prices, the agency they were affiliated with sold the image for $0.73 (my share) and I gave up.
There are lots of agencies and each has millions of images and most are just about giving away images nowdays.
Your work has to really stand out to get anywhere in that environment.
I do much better dealing directly with the people that want my work.

Thanks for the words of advice @Meta4. Totally agree that it’s very tough to even get a sell out there for stock images. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you find people that actually want your work?

My work is in a fairly specialised area.
Sometimes I contact the companies that own the things I shoot and sometimes that works well.
Other times they find me from images posted on websites that industry people read.

Oh interesting, how do these websites get your photography? Is it from what you mentioned above or do they buy or “steal” your photography and post it on their article.

Look at BlackBox.com. They will forward post your work on the other major sites. ( for a price )

But basically agree with the other comments regarding the low revenue. Although I did sell some 4K Video, made about $70 on only 2 sales from over 50 submissions.

Good Luck !
