Does your AIR 2S have a wide panoramic image stitching issue

I’ve been having issues when taking wide panorama mode with the Air2S, where it is obviously “stitching” the images incorrectly. I’ve tried this a few times at different locations with similar results. Has anyone else experienced this issue? More importantly, is there a fix? The firmware update I received yesterday did not resolve :( thanks in advance for any advice!

That is the wide panoramic, maybe try a few more, then speak to DJI if they keep failing
I think you're confused... the wide panoramic is a 3x3 ratio, and what you posted is a 3x7...

Panorama: Vertical (3×1): 3328×8000, Wide (3×3): 8000×6144, 180° (3×7): 8192×3500

i've been experimenting with wide panos on the air2s.
it takes 9 shots.
mine are set for DNG.
this is my workflow, albeit slow.
i don't use the DJI Fly stitched images.
rather, i import the 9 pano DNG files into a separate folder in Adobe Lightroom.
I then export JPG files, full size.
Next, Microsoft Image Composite Editor (ICE) reads the JPG files and stitches them.
(For some reason, I can't get ICE to work with the DJI DNG files and produce full-sized stitches.)
I usually select "Panoramic" projection.
Then I crop the main area, excluding the wildly distorted corners.
This will result in a mega-sized JPG file.
I will re-import that image into Lightroom or Photoshop and do the final tone/crop editing.
Resulting cropped file is approx 9000x6000 pixels.

That looks like it would always be a problem to stitch.
The camera is too close above the subjects, which have a lot of vertical rise in them.
This causes the differences between adjacent images to be too great for stitching software to make a proper match.
You would need to be much higher for this subject to stitch properly.

The thing is, I’ve done wide panoramas of this same spot with good success multiple times with my Air2... it must just be a limitation of this Air2S :( I’ve attached an example

That looks like it was shot from much higher, which would cause much less difference between adjacent images.
It's got nothing to do with the drone, it's all about how similar/different adjacent images are.
And vertical subjects too close to the camera will always cause a stitching problem.

It was shot from the same altitude at 390ft... I just zoomed and cropped to emphasize the issue in the first post

Then what's the whole image look like?
Is it all scrambled or just one little part?

It is multiple spots within photos. I took a couple more pictures to illustrate this ongoing issue. I went ahead and returned the drone and bought another A2S directly from DJI early this week. Unfortunately it still presents the same issue with wide panorama. Either it’s systemic, or I just have very bad luck with hardware.

That's not a fault in the drone.
Any stitching software can have problems with some images.
If you used proper dedicated stitching software to stitch individual images, you'll always get better results that using the built-in image stitching feature.

I am having the same issue although it doesn't seem limited to just wide pano for me. Lightroom seems to be doing a better job of stitching, so that's what I am using until DJI corrects the issue.

this sounds strange, but it might be worth a try.
your problem might be due to some property of the Air2S image file.
i had some problems with Air2S pano raw files getting stitched whacko.
( I also had some similar issues with the Mini2).

take the Air2S panos in raw, then after downloading, export the raw file to a full size jpg file.
then use those jpg files in either Photoshop or (my preference) Microsoft ICE to be stitched.

I have emailed DJI tonight asking them if its a known issue and if they plan on fixing it. Every pano I take has stitching issues. always on the left hand side and not limited to the kind of shot. no wind, a bit of wind, day and night, always on that left side. attached is the worst but in the drones defence it was windy and over sea with similar contrasts so not going to blame the drone for it this time.

Any stitching software would have had difficulty with that shot.
The software has to be able to identify a number of common fixed points in each pair of adjacent images.
When more than half of each image is a constantly changing pattern of wind waves, there are no fixed points to match.

What did you use to do the stitching?
Most stitching software would have given a straight horizon, but Microsoft Ice has a real problem with sea horizons like your example.

It was straight out of camera via the DJI App, The image I attached as obviously the worst one but I'm noticing a trend of it always having the stitch issue on the far left.

DJI have just responded with the following:

We strive to ensure every customer is satisfied with our business and we apologize for any way in which this case has inconvenienced you. In this case, you need to update the firmware of the aircraft and remote controller using the DJI Assistant 2, calibrate the IMU and calibrate the gimbal. Please follow the steps below. If the issue persists, please let us know. Thank you for your understanding and support.

DJI have just responded with the following:
Perhaps they've improved the stitching in the app (I doubt it).
That sounds like a standard copy and paste answer.
The stitching in the app is very basic and not particularly good for difficult stitching work.
There are specialised stitching programs that will give better results, but as I pointed out, they would have trouble with your example.
