Hi there, I’m going to be flying on Qantas and Jetstar flights in August and want to take my drone. Anyone done this and can confirm my plan below is ok?

  • Leave one battery in the drone
  • Carry the drone and spare batteries as carry on baggage
  • Put tape over the contact points on the spare batteries

Sound ok?

People fly with drones all the time and it should raise no concerns at the airport.

Leave the batteries out of the drone.
Pack the drone in carry-on or checked luggage, whichever is convenient
Batteries must be in your carry-on luggage
Tape or another method to prevent shorting is a good idea.

Although the battery connectors are relatively safe as they are, the battery terminals MUST be protected.

Strong masking tape is one of the best as it does not leave any residue on the terminals or battery case and easy to remove and reuse as required.
