Hello,

New Basic Pilot here with the Air 2S and looking for some suggestion as to place I can fly my drone. Somewhere within reason of Whitby that is maybe up to 40 mins away.

Unfortunately my house is within controlled airspace for Oshawa Airport. I'm actually just on the edge of the marked Aerodome. DJI says I can fly here but NavCanada says otherwise.

I love the drone so far, I've flown it up at my trailer near Bridgenorth (Ennismore) but want to fly near home.

Probably should get the Mini 3 Pro and but I'm not sure if I want to return the Air 2S back to Amazon. The Air 2S is far beyond what I need (I'm fairly new at Drone and well I'm not photographer - I'm a point and shoot guy) but hoping to get a better understanding for photography and videography.

Anyhow, any interesting spots to fly within Durham? Like structures or land?

I'd love to fly around my house but I need to get my Advance licence and flight assessment but I think that may be a little out of my league.

Thanks.

Welcome. I lived in Oshawa for many years. Have you tried up at Lake Scugog? Go across the cosway and take the first left after it and go to the end of the road (keep going straight). There's a boat launch there that is quite a nice little area.

Yeah I know where you are talking about. On the Island right. Way past the Casino, correct?

Pickering Beach looks interesting, and it's Class G airspace. You could get some footage if the nuke plant, but be wary... its not in controlled airspace but I'm sure security would have some concerns, so I wouldn't get too close.

Also, most of Courtice seems to be outside of the controlled airspace, Pickering Village as well. You'd need to maintain 30m horizontal separation from people, but both offer opportunities for town footage.

I like MTO car pool lots for practice, too. I'm not sure if the 418 has any, but the entire 418 is outside of the controlled airspace as well.

I suggest trying East Duffins Headwaters (Glen Major), just north of Claremont. I fly there a lot (and it's also great for lots of hikes). On the weekend I suggest getting there early and flying before people arrive (30 m separation rule would be hard to follow on a Sunday afternoon).

I've also had some great flights over farmland, just parking on the verge of a gravel road and seeing what I could see. Again, early morning has the best light.

Lake Scugog is neat, but be careful of the zone around the Port Perry Hospital heliport. Fallis Pond near Nestleton Station looks like it might be worth a visit (and the fields around there are nice).

Further afield there's the wind farm where Highway 7A takes a jog along 38 in Lifford.

Old thread alert, I know... but for the benefit of any newbies

I go out to Durham often- here is where I go:

- Very bottom of Courtice Road
- Purple Woods
- Anywhere along highway 7 east of the 412 - tons of areas in Seaton that have nobody in sight for miles
- Raglan area

Most of Port Perry is restricted as well due to the helipad at the hospital so I would not waste any time there. The rules are overly restricted I think.. especially below 400 feet... what I like about the US TRUST system is that they actually trust you to fly most anything as long as its below 400 feet... and even basic people are able to get authorization to fly from the FAA/local tower.

If you just want to beat around town... get a mini3.
