Drones and Weapons, A Dangerous Mix
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is warning the general public that it is illegal to operate a drone with a dangerous weapon attached.

Perhaps you’ve seen online photos and videos of drones with attached guns, bombs, fireworks, flamethrowers, and other dangerous items. Do not consider attaching any items such as these to a drone because operating a drone with such an item may result in significant harm to a person and to your bank account.

Operating a drone that has a dangerous weapon attached to it is a violation of Section 363 of the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act enacted Oct. 5, 2018. Operators are subject to civil penalties up to $25,000 for each violation, unless the operator has received specific authorization from the Administrator of the FAA to conduct the operation. “Dangerous Weapon” means any item that is used for, or is readily capable of, causing death or serious bodily injury.

Operators should keep in mind that federal regulations and statutes that generally govern drone operations still apply. Some state and federal criminal laws regarding weapons and hazardous materials may also apply to drone operators or manufacturers involved in certain operations.
"dangerous weapon" definition you ask? Section 363
(b) Dangerous Weapon Defined.—In this section, the term “dangerous weapon” has the meaning given that term in section 930(g)(2) of title 18, United States Code.
section 930(g)(2) of title 18, United States Code.
The term “dangerous weapon” means a weapon, device, instrument, material, or substance, animate or inanimate, that is used for, or is readily capable of, causing death or serious bodily injury, except that such term does not include a pocket knife with a blade of less than 2½ inches in length.

guys... don't attach anything that can be capable of causing serious bodily injury to your drones... EXCEPT for pocket knives with blades of less than 2½ inches in length.

on a serious note, could adding a battery mod (strapping a LIHV battery that is capable of bursting into flames on impact with the ground) be considered a dangerous weapon?

Are you strapping it on as a source of power or a source on injury?

Crap! There go my plans to start airlifting honey badgers with my Mavic. Looks like they fit the "dangerous weapon" definition. 😂

yeah kind of scary when the FAA feels the need to remind people not to mount weapons to their drones.

HA! You shortsighted Americans could not have foreseen my plan to attain World Domination® by using my army of trained ninja attack gerbils suspended from Matrice 600s, ready to ambush the centres of world power by silently parachuting down onto... ahhh, bugger. I think I just revealed my secret plans.

Yes, that flame thrower attachment would
certainly qualify as a dangerous weapon.
FAA is serious about this, operators are subject to civil penalties up to $25,000 for each violation. Perhaps you have seen on line photos and videos of drones with attached guns, bombs, fireworks, flame thrower, and other dangerous items.
All those are considered a very dangerous mix, and if caught will cause a significant
amount of hurt to bank account.

WTH is happening to our freedom? Every day it seems our rights are being chipped away. Now the FAA is encroaching on Americans right to bear arms using drones. Some use as security for protecting their personal property...
