I was recently at a church festival with my wife when she pointed out a nearby drone...I thought perhaps it was one of the parishioners filming the event until it starting buzzing the crowd of about 100 at a fairly low altitude of about 25 feet...I looked around to see if I could spot the pilot but could not...After several high speed low passes he took off across the highway and shot up very high over a small lake...The whole area is capped at a 200 foot limit even with LAANC as it is in the footprint of MKE so I know what 200 feet looks like and he shot past that...I am not the drone police but I was disappointed to see this sort of reckless flying and disregard for the rules...If he would have clipped anything at those speeds people would have been hurt...I saw a mixed reaction from some in the crowd...we left shortly afterwards.

Meh....what can ya do you know? Yea it sucks seeing people act a fool but in the end it is is his/her problem.

/s i was at a wedding one time and while people were arriving, i heard a super car revving it's engine and peeling out in the parking lot. he made 1 or 2 doughnuts, there was some smoke, and then speed off out of the parking lot and high tailed it out of there. we thought it might be an ex. i was disappointed in the car driving community, somebody could have been hurt had he lost control. i don't understand why someone would do that, why someone would be so careless. certainly there are laws against it and i don't understand how someone would break the law or why the law didn't stop him. he was definitely over the 30 mph speed limit when he exited the parking lot, i could tell, i've seen fast cars before. since there is an elementary school down the block, a retirement home across the street, and a hospital in the neighborhood, i thought about calling the police but i decided to mind my own business, a ticket like that for putting innocent people in danger could have easily exceeded $75,000 or even $175,000 since we have to make an example of these people and teach them a lesson; safety first. /s/s/s

Mmm… it’s behaviour like this that’s resulted in the legislation that’s constantly being updated to prevent responsible pilot’s from flying, and the constant moaners are usually the perpetrator’s.
When will these idiots wake up and realise what damage they’re doing…

Sad and irresponsible.

Maybe start by not allowing them to post their lawless actions. If no one can read or see their bragging maybe it will reduce their stupid actions.

just so i'm clear, are you asking for the government to censor "lawless" actions? or yt/fb/insta?

Just yt/fb/insta and this forum.

that's fine. yt would lose half it's business if it started censoring those types of videos. i understand if such conduct is egregious or it breaks the basic rules set forth by google/owner. or if you have been found guilty in court, that's a good reason to take down that content, too. but google is uniquely american and is all about freedom of expression and there's no way to judge a video as you have requested. imagine if every video had to be screened or reviewed for driving too fast or a jogger running across private property or a bicyclist biking around town without a headlight or a car running a stop sign or a drone flying without laanc. they're all in the same category....harmless on video. you do know a video is not the problem, right? i'll allow it. :)

Whatever the rights or wrongs of the case, the majority ends up suffering for the actions of the idiot minority. I have lost the use of my local flying field and one further away where I have flown RC fixed wing models for nearly 15 years because of knee jerk reaction by Spanish ATC.

This was not video flying to be posted later…this was low level sport flying over a large group of people who were at a social gathering…No one was at the gate taking signatures that it was ok for someone to fly what could be a dangerous item over our heads at high speeds…It was not announced at any sermon I attended that this would be part of the event…there is no room for this type of flying in our craft…I am all about freedom of speech/self expression but this does not fall there…

Freedom of speech does not cover interfering with 3rd parties safety or even enjoyment.

Ultimately the number of idiots is growing. Ideally these would all get reported, caught and severely fined as a lesson to others.

If you see something illegal on YT then maybe report it to the FAA or whoever the regulatory body is so the person can be IDd and hopefully prosecuted. In the UK there have been several prosecutions due to people posting evidence of their illegal flights on social media.

Let's clear a few things up real quick just for transparency sake:

Just yt/fb/insta and this forum.
This forum..... we try to "Censor" as little as possible and unless the video violates one of our community guidelines (or is just very distasteful/disruptive to the forum) we don't censor it. Here's the direct quote from the commmunity guidelines:

15. The Forum Owners strongly encourage users to obey all federal and local laws and regulations when flying. It is a helpful service to the community when members guide others in understanding and following the regulations. Meanwhile, fully understanding all international rules and regulations is complex and it is not the responsibility of the forum owners, moderators or community members to police and enforce these rules and regulations. Any violation of another community rule, even if in the context of attempting to help enforce flying laws and regulations, is prohibited.

A)
It doesn't matter if they are taking signatures at the gate... flying over people, in general is not allowed unless you have some very specific (and difficult to acquire) waivers from the FAA. Every single person can sign a waiver/release and it's still not LEGAL to fly like you are describing.

B) If you SEE something... SAY something... get your phone out... record the actions and report them to the FAA. Unfortunately without the operator's contact information it's probably a lost cause but maybe.... just maybe... someone running/organizing the event knows the operator and they BOTH could use some "EDUCATION". No report then the FAA knows nothing about it and there is no chance of anyone learning from this mistake.

To save drone flying as a hobby something must be done. The high ideals expressed above, " but google is uniquely american and is all about freedom of expression..." just don't justify the actions mentioned, nor does the quote above "we try to "Censor" as little as possible...". Maybe the censor guideline should be modified to include unlawful actions.

And it's for these exact reasons why I started this post on here earlier this evening...

Take a look at the thread titled, "Getting the Public on your Side"

Listen @Harro , it's not our job to know every law/rule/regulation in the world and as you already know this is an INTERNATIONAL forum. We have more than enough work (we are volunteer) just trying to keep the forum clean of Spambots, Pornbots, rude/mean people, and scammers. Trying to watch and censor every piece of media on this forum is not going to happen.

Also keep in mind that what is illegal in one area could very well be legal in another. Do you suggest we make the forum regional and you can only see posts that fit into the guidelines of your area?

See the slippery slope you've suggested? Not gonna happen.

Allen

It doesn’t matter what hobby/pastime were involved in, someone will spoil the fun by their idiotic and irresponsible actions, as a result legislation is introduced. Unfortunately it’s a natural result of the success of the activity, and all we can do is accept it. It also becomes a problem when the people who are responsible for introducing legislation don’t understand why it’s a great pastime and try to stifle the activity.
Please note… I haven’t mentioned flying drones because this is a natural evolution of any pastime, and it’s up to us to prove that we are responsible by respecting and accepting the legislation. Only then will these people listen and make concessions.

i don't have to accept anything dude that's ridiculous. and i won't. you can cave in if you want to. but you'll be the first one to benefit from the hard work that others put in trying to save this hobby, won't you?
