So excited about getting the Mavic but the more I read about restrictions and Big Brother( DJI), I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of getting into this hobby. I checked one of the apps to see if it's ok to at least fly in my back yard and and 2 of the three apps say I'm within 4.5 miles of a heliport(police department).
I read conflicting rules on heliports, can anyone clarify for me, and is Big Brother going to hack into my checking account and deposit more funds for the Mavic Pro 2?
Thanks

As paranoid as you are you might not want to get into this hobby. The Mavic has GPS and a camera after all, so who knows what sort of spying it might be doing on you.

Heliports aren't NFZs, so you're good to fly there with the appropriate caution for any aircraft actually operating in the area. The "new" geo restrictions that are enforced are actually few and far between, and actually make sense. Very close to airports, prisons, that sort of thing.

You aren't required to have a credit card on file with your DJI account, so no worries there. But as with any hobby, you will end up spending plenty of your money of your own free will.

You might want to actually read "1984" so you better understand the concept of Big Brother.

First, be aware that the (over)reaction that you see on the forum isn't a sampling from the center of any bell shaped curve. That said, most are having no increase in problems, not do they have a fear that DJI is acting like big brother.

DJI drones are fantastic pieces of technology. They are easy to fly and fairly trouble free unless you fail to carefully read and understand the manual.

Pull the trigger!

PS: of you're nervous about giving DJI your credit card info, buy through Amazon. It will still come direct from the DJI store, plus, if you have an Amazon CC, you'll get 3-5% in awards points.

oh your doing it.!
Who you fool'n?
Put your big girl panties on and go for it.!
.....................and get the fly more kit don't cheep'n out
.
and please let me be the first to say that..... It's not if... It's you will crash.!
be mindful whats your action are at the time till then injoy the mavic is so stable and very willing to fly

I was exactly the same but went ahead and ordered. It arrived Friday last week and I'm super impressed by the little thing. Picture quality is far better than I was expecting and its been out now more than my P4 pro

Go for it, brah. Like what has been said you won't see all the "everything is great" on most forums, mostly it's about getting help and complaining about how things suck. I live near Dobbins AFB (which is awesome) but I'm not bothered by NFZ garbage. Be safe and have loads of fun. Exhale slowly and squeeze that trigger.

3 questions: Who did you order it from, how long before you received it and how much did you pay?Oops, one more, did you get the DJIU Refresh warranty?

If I was to do it again Polly go to ED Ricker YouTube channel click on link
.
Or Amazon with a card good price plus protection through amazon

Well ,my mavic is to be delivered today! But, I don't think the seller( thru Amazon) is an authorized dealer. Am I screwed on the DJI
warranty?Trying to find a complete dealer list but not having any luck.My seller is BEST4SALE.I liked the items in their bundle and that's why I went with them.
Any thoughts or condolances:)?

Maintenance Item's:

Look very carefully at that ribbon cable There is a debate that alot of our (Cloud touchers) have faulty cables and fail a short time down this road
check for any kinks along the cable you can see
and on start up (after removing Camera lock and guard)
Move the camera around see if that cable might be touching/Shaffing the frame anywere
Also make sure the battery seats in properly

Careful These mavic will give you a sense of false confident s because they seem to fly with ease
do not fly with a low battery
................................................Injoy your bird
....................................................... but also take care of it when handling/storing/flying it
