FlySafe requires update question

I am using the Fly App version 1.5.9 on a Mini 2 with 1.03 firmware (for dronehacks) and I'm receiving the FlySafe requires update notice.
Will I eventually need to update it?
Will it effect the app or firmware I'm currently using?
