Well, not actually Eugene, but a small town 20 minutes north. I've been a professional photographer (and also cinema buff) for 40 years, and with the capabilities and price-point of drones these days I decided that learning to competently fly one would get it off my bucket list. So, my Mini 2 will be arriving next week. Now we'll see how good I can get before I crash it, lose it, or watch it fly away. So many choices!

Hi Jamie MacKaye Welcome to Mavic Pilots.
New flyer advice,
Wide open space.
Slow & easy
Power-lines & trees are evil.
Don't expect RTH (Return To Home) to save you especially if you are under trees.
Don't forget to read the manual ;)
Download Mini 2 manual HERE
You want an SD card that is U3 for 4K
Most of all have FUN

Thanks! Your advice is also my plan. Looking around my small town here in Oregon I have been AMAZED by how many power lines appeared the day after I ordered my Mini 2! And I have already made note not to fly under trees or anything else that might impede it if the RTH is under it. Lucky to be near several open space opportunities in my small town. I did download the manual, but also have many organized bookmarks to lots of YouTube videos. Watching videos of drone crashes has kept me on realism alert. Ken Herron is a hoot!

Enjoy your mini 2. The time between when you order it and the time you get it seems like a century...at least for me it did.:)
Not me. I've been using my time watching some great YouTube videos and learning a lot. Then, I find myself flying it every night as I drift into dreamland. (Not the same as actually flying it, of course; but no crashes or flyaways either.) And, BTW, I'm amazingly fast and accurate flyer under these conditions. Reality arrives in box from B&H next week.

Welcome to the forum the beautiful mountains of Colorado! Happy and safe flying!

Welcome to Mavic Pilots .
I hope you will find our site helpful and look forward to any input , photo's/video's you might post .
Don't be shy and ask anything if you can't find it by searching .Thumbswayup

Being from Junction City is way better than being from Eugene. 20 miles is barely far enough from the crazy ducks in Eugene, at least for this OSU grad.

I'm going to be in Juntion City on friday... but no drone flights. I'm picking up some wheel lines. I'll take it with me (I take it everywhere) but doubt there will be a chance to put it in the air.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Here are some things to help you get started with your Mini 2:
  • The current Mini 2 manual can be downloaded here (it doesn't come in the box). Other important documents can be found on the Mini 2 downloads page.

  • Check out this getting started guide for some tips not found in the Mini 2 manual.

  • This video covers all the basics of the Mini 2.

  • Your drone batteries will last longer if you use and maintain them like this.

  • Practice flying outdoors in a wide open location that's free of all obstacles. Don't attempt to fly inside your house or in other confined locations.

  • The drone records flight data each time you fly. You can decrypt and view those flight logs with these tools.

  • Check out MavicHelp.com for commonly used accessories you might need.
