Mavic mini is what im working with

So I got a ? When im close to the drone the signals don't change also when its father away the signal doesn't change. When it come back to me and land it changes but shows some change and some red? Is this normal id think the closer to the drone the better it should show?

Also I have tried open field and same results

Today when I was flying 300ft above me to take morning shots it was breaking up after I snapped the photo the photos came put great but the feed froze for a few.

I have 2 days to return this mavic mini just want to know if this is normal

That’s actually a measure of interference not signal.

The red bars are probably due to the angle from the remote to the drone going up through the drone and possibly even inference from the radio waves bouncing off the ground.

These are indeed interference metrics. WIFI signals are very common most places, from home routers And computers. They all operate at specific frequencies within 2 rc bands allocated by the FCC. 2 signals at exactly the same frequency are both sending information. The drone has very limited ability to differentiate which information is relevant to flight. Occusync and other techniques are used by DJI to encode flight info to make it easier to separate out DJI information from the random chatter of the other WIFI sources on that channel.

This problem is aggravated by the transmission physics. All WIFI signals weaken exponentially with distance between transmitter and receiver. As the drone moves through space this alters the signals relationship very quickly. DJI’s auto mode attempts to fix this problem in real time by switching channels to find the best signal balance at that moment.
