On reading a recent post on here about a members Mavic crashing into a lake due to what appeared to be a malfunctioning IMU gave me a thought. Are dual redundant sensors really that much of a safety increase? My thinking is that other than a complete failure would sensors not need to work in 3’s so that the malfunctioning/ incorrect reading sensor could be identified from the other 2 readings? Otherwise how does the drone pick what sensor is giving the correct input?
I guess software could eliminate a sporadic reading from ta solid one but in the case of the post I read the IMU was producing a constant reading of increasing height which resulted in a crash to the ground...
Just wondering your thoughts or if I’m missing anything (I’m not an engineer or computer scientists ha)
