I'd like to fly in a DJI Red Zone, slightly above the LAANC Automated authorization that's available at or below 50 ft for a specific location (ideally at 200 ft max)
Apparently LAANC will automatically reject this request which means that I can't get authorization required to unloack a DJI Red Zone location...
So, what is my next option get approval to fly my DJI drone above this height?

Unless you are part 107 you cannot under any circumstances get authorization to fly above the available automatic approval height for LAANC.

If you ARE part 107 you can submit a LAANC request for manual approval for the height you want. Probably won’t be Monday at the earliest to hear back.

If you are recreational only then this is the end of the road sorry.

Okay, so as a Part 107 pilot how do I do a LAANC request "for manual approval"? I don't see that option listed in Airmap.

I honestly have better luck using KittyHawk to do it. You need to set up your profile with your airman certificate details and be sure to choose the part 107 commercial when you are submitting your flight details.

You have to request authorization at least 48 hours in advance and through experience they aren’t gonna to approve anything over the weekend so if the flight is on a Sunday submit by Wednesday.

You can also submit authorization requests through FAA DroneZone but it will yell at you the whole way to just use LAANC but ultimately accept the request.

The last I looked, I the authorization tool on DroneZone is gone, at least the links I I found to it now return a “page not found” error.

I’ll give that a better look. I like Airmap because of its simplicity, but I cant seem to find the manual authorization part of it.

I just tried doing it with AirMap and got some weird error so they must be having issues.
Do you have an Kittyhawk enterprise account? I just tried doing an authorization (via web) for a flight above the 50 ft LAANC auto authorize zone and was told that I needed a enterprise account to do so. Is that true?

No I don’t know why people have such a hard time with this. I’ll walk you through it

Find where you want to fly on the map and click get authorization

you should be able to take it from here there’s just a questioner to fill out.

Don't know why people have such a hard time reading a thread and understanding LAANC.
If the altitude is above the LAANC altitude and you are not Part 107 it's nogo period.
A 0ft square you ain't gonna fly there at all.
If you are part 107 I have found it best just to goto Dronezone and apply there. You will get a pop-up telling you it's LAANC but you can still do the application.

The FAA called me because I was unaware of newer procedures and asked on the application what was up. If you are asking for above the LAANC altitude the airport needs to approve it and many smaller airports do not have staff on the weekend to do that.

So it could easily take two WEEK days. Using Airmap or Kittyhawk just puts a third party between you and the FAA, and will take longer.

The manual approval is done at a regional level at the ARTCC air route traffic control center. It may be done slightly different in different regions of the country. Minn. MN. has a "plans and procedures specialist" PPS that works in the back room (or front office) of the radar center. One of the additional duties of PPS is manual LAANC approval. I believe this is a 9-5 job, and she may not check email on weekends, that's why they say; give it 48 hours for approval. ZMSP has a reputation for not being very friendly in my opinion. Some regions have more discretion than others, If a controller just says "no" it makes the job easier because then they don't have to "work" traffic, the job pays the same with or without traffic. A friendly phone call to the center may yield positive results after talking to a live person.

Interesting.
Well at VRB (Vero Beach Regional) they do right there. Small airport little traffic.
They did give me a two day turnaround but Airmap told me from them it could be 3 days.

The first time tried this was via the web and their website. When I hit the "submit" button I got a notice that I was required to have an Enterprise account to submit outside of a auto LAANC authorization.
I then tried the KittyHawk app and I was able to do post my request just fine. Still waiting for approval though which I anticipate won't happen until normal business hours.

I don't have atough time doing LAANC requests. BUT, when I went to the Kittyhawk website to make my request, I instantly got a message telling me that to use that tool I needed a Enterprise account. That was the challenge I had....

Well that’s just Kittyhawks Way of getting you to pay up.
Everything they offer you you can do through Drone zone for free.

That's using the Kittyhawk website. Using the Android / iOS app is still completely free.

Dronezone: FAADroneZone

Create an account, find the location where you want to fly and fill out the request. Takes anywhere from a day to week to hear back. Don't do it on a Friday or before a holiday. Do it early in the week. Also, you can put in for an extended time (I usually go for a year).
