Hello All, first post here.

I used to fly a Phantom 1 for work/video projects way back when DJI/Consumer drones were somewhat new. Because of this, there were never really any regulations.

Since then, I've looked into getting something for personal use, but I live very close to no-fly zones and was always put off spending the money, if it meant I can't use it, for example, to film my daughter and I playing in the local park.

I've also looked at the possibility of providing "drone" services when clients ask. I work as a video editor and mostly working on the standard talking head videos — but I've always pushed drone shots away as the who certification steps are expensive and I am not sure I can justify that, on the off chance I need to get an external shot of a clients warehouse or manufacturing plant. I normally point people towards certified drone specialists.

I guess I'm asking two questions here, possibly in the hope that the new Mavic Mini, will provide me with something that I can take and fly anywhere — without needing to worry about flyzones, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Adam.

Interested in seeing what everyone has to say.
My guess is that zone restrictions are enforced regardless of size and weight.
Where in VA?

The only reprieve you get from FAA is not having to register for hobbyists.
The Mini has geofencing, and right now not equipped to unlock.

Part 107 isn't that expensive for a business. Mini would not be exempt from registering in this case.

Lots of topics on this issue.
