May seem silly indeed but I heard stories that range was exceeded and drone just smashed on the ground :/
Probably because there wasn't enough battery to get it back home.

Many countries have flight limits, typically 400ft altitude above take off height and remain in unaided visual line of sight, which is typically no more than about 1500ft distance, best to stay in this range.

These are pretty much guidelines and not "limits" Only us cautious people will follow the 400Ft max rule. The DJI app lets you go as high as 500m above take off level. So roughly software limits are at about 1,600 feet above take off point.

you can fly as high and as far as your battery will last and then the Mavic will fall out of the sky. Why don't you run a test for us and let us know how far it got. I would be interest to know too.
