Every time I reach nearly 1500 feet distance, my mavic stops, and the app says maximum distance reached. Any idea what is happening?

Perhaps because 400ft in most parts of the World is the absolute legal threshold Altitude

You are referring to altitude, not horizontal limit. Most countries don't have a precise horizontal limit, but instead require drones to be flown within line of sight.
