How is the case that comes with the mini 2 from DJI? My understand is that it's not hard, so if I put it in my backpack it can get squished and ruin the drone?

Is the flymore combo worth it? I like the extra 2 batteries and the charger (everything else in that combo is not that important), although I don't like that the charger is sequential, meaning it can take 5 hours to charge all 3 batteries, instead of 1.5 if it would charge simultaneously, and the fact that 4 batteries would give the best mobility and endurance, since 3 batteries can stay in the charger and the 4th in the drone. There's also not much point in taking out the battery from the drone if it's the last one, since you can charge it inside the drone and use the same battery for the next flight. So I think I'll end up using the charger (if I get the fly more combo) with only 2 batteries. Unless I get 1 extra battery, to have 4, which brings me to the next point...

Annoying that Mini 2 lipo battery is 55 US while Mini 1 li-ion is 40. I could buy the Mini 1 li-ion, but I believe I can't charge it with the Mini 2 charger correct (uses 8.8V)? So only option is to have it charged inside the drone only? Can the mini 2 drone regulate the voltage to allow for Mini 1 li-ion battery to be charged?

I know reports said Mini 1 li-ion battery can be used with Mini 2 drone, did it turned out it's fully compatible (it won't move around in the drone or damage the pins)? I know the mini 1 li-ion battery is slightly smaller.

While the Mini 1 battery will fit and allow the drone to fly it really is not meant for the Mini 2. I'd stick to the battery made for it for the best performance.

As the last poster said... performance is better from the new battery as the technology allows for a higher use of power on demand so I would use the new style batteries

.The Fly More combo is usually the best deal for DJI drones if you add up the price if what is included, but with the Mini 2 its not as much of a value.

Because I am backpacking my Mini 2, I find the included case is inadequate protection and too large for my needs, instead I'm using a smaller case that holds the drone, controller, 3 batteries, and my filters. I do not carry the charger in the case as there is no need in the woods and it will not fit. If I really need the charger, I can carry it seperately.

The included charger is good enough for me as 3 batteries worth of flight would be about my personal limit for a day of flying with the Mini 2. There are aftermarket chargers that can get a recharge done much quicker if you have greater needs.

So.... if you are replacing the case and buying a different charger, the combo is probably not a great deal.

Our assessment of the carry bag is that it is good enough to keep the drone safe when placed in a backpack. We would normally have used a very similar bag for equipment - we have two identical Manfrotto ones - and these are, admittedly, better padded. But if you're a careful person, the DJI bag is definitely adequate.

A couple of months ago, spare batteries for the Mini 2 weren't readily available - which is why I guess many of us went for the Combo.

Hello Me262:

I purchased the Fly More Combo and two additional batteries when acquiring my Mini 2. I’m happy with the set up for bikepacking and backpacking, but I did change the case to reduce the size of the the total package. I‘m using a PGYTech case. Compactly fits drone, controller, 2 extra batteries, foldable sunscreen for phone when on controller, extra props and a few minor accessories.

On longer trips I have recharged the drone batteries with an Anker Powerbank which worked great. If you decide to go that route you might carefully research various powebanks as those with multiple outlets, USB 3 charging capacity, etc greatly speed up the process. Mine has three outlets capable of USB 3 so I can crawl into my tent at night, hook up the DJI battery hub with 3 batteries, my GPS watch and phone then fall asleep. At some point I’ll wake up, disconnect whatever has fully charged an connect my USB headlamp before falling back asleep. In the morning everything is full for the next day.

Personally I'd like something that would fit in a backpack and offer protection. I tend to go backpacking a lot, so I'd be carrying a big bottle of water, maybe a lunch packed, etc. And I just don't want the contents of my backpack to crush my baby.

With my mini 1, I bought this: Rantow Travelling Transport Hardshell Case Shoulder Bag for DJI Mavic Mini RC Minidrone Carrying Box Suitcase - Store for Mavic Mini Drone, Controller, Battery, Propellers, SD Card USB-C Cable, Remote- & App-Controlled Toys - Amazon Canada

And it was a great box. Well padded, and very compact. And only $22CAD (less than $20 US). But nothing similar exists for mini 2 as of right now.

I am not a fan of the soft case either. Not very secure putting in your backpack and traveling. I bought this on Amazon,,, fits everything

I have this on order.

Did you guys bought the fly more combo, so you have the DJI bag, then decided to go for the aftermarket bag?

Here is something that you want I think, US $15.59 20% OFF|DJI Mini 2 Drone Body Carrying Case Remote Controller Storage Bag Fast Charger Shoulder Bag For DJI Mavic Mini 2 Accessories|Drone Bags| - AliExpress

Well I ordered the flymore combo. For the 2 extra batteries and charger I think it's worth it, although is significanat vs mini 1 bundle. Oh well, at least I could take advantage of the 10% edu discount.

I'm shaking my head. We only use a drone for work purposes. Our standards are high. And we're a lot more cautious than the majority of people, using our "What if...?" principle a lot in training of team members. And, yes, we always carry water AND cans of Coca Cola (the latter to be consumed by moi, chilled with ice cubes) - although the bottle of water will be in an outer side pocket of the backpack.

We just cannot see why the DJI Combo bag isn't good enough for others (as above), if it's good enough for us to use. We usually work overseas in some of the toughest conditions. And if anything happens to any of our equipment, it's game over because we then couldn't work. After all, the original question was about will the DJI Combo bag protect the drone, preventing it from being squashed?

I'm wondering if the swapping of cases is just a hobby thing. There are undoubtedly better cases available. (Above, I mentioned that we use two very similar Manfrotto bags for cameras and that these are slightly better padded.)

Or are people's standards so appalling bad? If so, only get the hardest of cases - and don't ever take your drone out of it because it'll be in serious danger. Or are the forum members above morbidly obese, worried about falling on the DJI Combo bag and/or backpack - perhaps with a pet elephant in tow??

Hello African Wildlife:

I appreciate your acceptance of the DJI Combo bag. I use it frequently with my Mavic Air 2 (MA2). However, the bag that I received with my Mini 2 (Mn2) Fly More Combo is dimensionally identical to the MA2 bag and thus wastes space compared to the more efficient PGYTECH Mn2 bag that I use. When on self-supported bikepacking or backpacking trips the space savings provided by the aftermarket case is important to me. The volume of kit needed for several days when all camping gear, food and water is carried on a bicycle that may be lifted over pour offs in a desert wash, pushed through a mile or more of brush to connect tracks, etc. is challenging to pack efficiently.

No matter whether one uses drones for work or hobby, our needs vary and the perfect solution for one may not work for another. I find reading through threads like this helpful as I learn how we may have different solutions to similar, but not identical, problems!

Hi Howard. First, we're big fans of New Mexico and the other southwestern States. We've worked there quite a lot of times over many years. Very different terrain from here in the UK. And a great location for movies (such as the excellent Hostiles. (I'm sure you know where, on a private ranch just south of Santa Fe.)

Yes, the Combo bag has a little bit of space at the top of where the controller and spare batteries/recharger sit. We carry the recharging cable/plug with us when overseas - and I'm guessing you wouldn't if you're just out for a few days. Plus we use a set of Tiffen ND/PL filters. And the excellent foldable Moment landing pad - imported from the US - fits in one of the pockets. That said, does it really justify getting another bag? As volume is sometimes as crucial as weight - at least at the very outset - couldn't a pair of (clean) underwear be initially stored there until the first bag of trail mix or whatever has been consumed after the first few hours, freeing up space elsewhere? Or for an emergency foil blanket or whatever?

Trust me, if you knew what we do - and where we do it - you'd appreciate that we often have to make every spare inch of space count. Sometimes, it's just two of us carrying the same amount of equipment that would normally be carried by three or even four of us - so we know all about packing. And our working locations are rarely near a town or city, often several miles away (or further) from the nearest car park on a dirt road. We mostly use a drone overseas - again requiring thoughtful/creative packing before even leaving home. This is one of the main reasons why we now have the Mini 2 for when we have to travel ultra light. (You'll be pleased to know that our Phantom 4 Pro Plus has been hauled by backpack to several great locations in the wilds of NM, as it's relatively portable in comparison to other equipment - although many Mavic owners would disagree.)

Although my post above was to return to the original question addressing "does it protect the drone?", we wouldn't consider an alternative purchase if we already had the DJI Combo bag. It's well designed, sufficiently well made, not too heavy, and keeps out the dust. And it's easily compact enough to fit in a backpack or similar - even as just one of several similar-sized equipment bags - with other flexible stuff going around it. It's not as if we have never purchased a different bag for a specific reason; we might use a basic backpack one time, for example, or a specialist top-of-the-range Lowepro one another.

Best wishes to you in NM. Under different circumstances, we could easily have chosen to live there in your great State.

Since I carry a backpack all the time, most of the time full, for my hiking, I need to make sure my backpack isn't squishing the drone. If the bag does it's job, it would be great! If you carry it on the shoulder, like it's probably suppose to, I'm sure it's more than fine.

I wait now for the drone to arrive

You'll be fine with it. Ours is almost always carried in a backpack and sometimes at different angles, surrounded by heavier equipment.

I'm not sure where in Canada you are, but you've got an abundance of outdoor spaces in your country so huge potential for interesting locations.

Yep, looking forward to receive the bundle and give it a go. It would save a lot of headache if the bag is sturdy enough to protect the drone inside the backpack. No need to look for 3rd party and "hope" they will do the job and are how they are advertised. And I already paid for the entire bundle, so it would definitely help the wallet if I can use everything.

I'm on Vancouver Island, so definitely huge potential.
