Hello everybody all around the world. My name is Dave. I live in Suffolk in the UK. A few of you might remember my woes. When I had sold my mini 1. And invested in a mini 2 fly more combo. The cut to the Chase. I was never able to get a picture on my device, due to a "Connection problem" And as strange as it may seem. I was able to roll the gimble up and down. But got no picture. So it went back to the store. I came away with another new one. I connected the fresh one up the way I had been doing with my original Mini1 for 18 months. I uninstalled the fly app again. Reinstalled it again. Held my breath. and first turned on the controller. Turned on the drone. I recalibrated the compass. by doing the usual little dance of rotating the drone horizontally. Then vertically. the with its nose up. I put the drone on the ground. Lights were flashing but no on-off flashing green lights on the rear, like my mini 1. Once again, I had movements on the gimbal. but no picture FFS !! I was so stressed and angry with this. Surely I've not bought another Dud. I was posting questions on here. so many people replied with advice. Of which I tried all of them. Yes, I've tried everything !!!. I really do think it must be me. As I'm old and bloody stupid. And a bit thick as far as understanding all the tech speak a lot of you were using. I'm sorry about that
I always read that when the app is installed. That "The drone will work right out of the box". ??? So. In shear angry stress. I returned the second one back to the store. And came away with a full no questions asked refund. They never even looked in the box FFS.
Right. I still want a Mini 2. And decided that I would wait three months (Now) to try again. Just in case there had been a recall because of this problem. I had given my mini one to my son for Christmas. He could see how cross the bloody drone was making me. He said. Have the drone back, dad. So I did. I had deleted everything I could on it. before giving it to him. So I reassembled the mini one. Powered it up. I had a picture. Yippie !! The first step accomplished. She said "Your home point has been noted" And I took off across the fields. And had a wonderful time. It was like I had returned home from the war. I was elated. Now the main reason I changed to the 'two' was that it is supposed to cope better in slightly stronger winds. As to be honest. The mini-one doesn't like it if you even breathe on it. Only joking. But I want better than that. The DJI drones are amazing. So once again. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to buy yet another android phone. Unless I really have to. For those of you in the UK. Are there any camera stores here in the UK? In Essex / Suffolk /Cambridge region that sells DJI Drones, Which will show me how to pair up the mini 2 with my phone in the store before I'm satisfied enough and leave the store a happy boy (70-year-old boy that is).
Please help this old guy out, mates.
Thanks Dave

Welcome to the forum. Wish you well on this journey. We will look forward to your contribution and your view of the world

Hi Dave, Welcome to the forum mate, I don't think you can be that unfortunate to have two drones that are faulty, I would think maybe the initial binding of the drone is not quiet right, and is causing you some grief, and until April 12th I can't imagine you will find a camera store open, to be able to assist you with pairing the drone to the controller, and connect your phone.
There is some videos on YouTube that are quiet detailed, and may help you,

Have a look at the video, I think you would need to purchase the Mini 2 again, as I understand you may of returned it ?
Otherwise I am sure there could be someone on the forum in North Essex, or Suffolk who could maybe meet you and get the phone connected to the controller, and paired to the drone.

Best of Luck Dave, ;)

Wow. So Much Helpful advice. And welcoming me to the forum. I've actually been a member I think for eighteen months. And just noticed I'm a "well-known member". How did that happen??
Even at my age. I like to try and keep up with the young guns. I refuse to be beaten So I will be buying a '2' again. Wish me luck. I will watch that video Mac mad. Just another question. Surely someone else must have suffered something similar. Pretty please... C'mon, admit it. Or I must be unique...Hope not. Dave

Hi all. I am replying to myself. I meant to mention this in that reply. About how I could move the camera gimble up and down, using the controller roll button. So I must have been connected...
Yes............

I was going to welcome you to the forum but..... you should be posting in the "Mini" area. Just a FYI.

Makes me wonder what device are you using with your drone and is it on the "list" of approve devices.

Not sure if this will help but when I got my replacement Mini, I had the tech guys at the store link the controller/phone with the drone.

Too bad I was not paying that much attention but it was not a straightforward process as there were buttons to press for a long period of time and some audible sequence of beeps to ensure a good link.

Then I tested the drone (hover, yaw, short up/down/forward/side movement, camera, and phone connectivity) in the shop and it was all good and still good up to now.

Since you're able to control the gimbal I would have to say that either the cable connection OR the port on your phone is the likely culprit. I have been able to fly often without even connecting a phone/ tablet. Have you tried borrowing another phone or tablet to troubleshoot whether it's your device? A new Samsung a21 will run you about £180 if it turns out to be the port on your phone and supposedly works with DJI Fly. I cant guarantee any truly helpful advice but some people have had issue with plugging the cable in backwards between the controller and phone. Personally I have been able to use both stock and aftermarket cables in both orientations most of the time with my Mini, Mini2 and Air2 but every once in awhile a different phone or cable will act up and only work one way.

Morning Dave, what phone are you using out of curiosity, make and model number.
And I know I have never had any connection issues, although I have had a Mavic Pro previously and now own a Mavic Pro 2.
I am sure this issue is a lot more common than you would think.
Hi. It's a Wileyfox android. No idea where I would find the serial number. Thanks anyway

Hi Dave,
I am thinking the phone is the culprit, did you say you used the same phone on the Mini ? but wouldn't work on the Mini 2, I have seen similar threads on the Dji forum, saying the Wileyfox Spark X, although I am not sure if that's your phone, is causing drop outs causing screen going green, I wonder if the processor in the handset is not up to running the newer Dji App.

Doing some research it also appears that on the first generstion Swift, if that's the phone you have, the micro usb port is more recessed than is standard so its possible that the cable can't fully engage to make the connection. Similar to having a case, you may have to get a usb extender tip. And if you are trying to use cables that were supplied by Wileyfox that may be another possible cause for the problem. Their cables supposedly do not fully comply with USB specs and standards. As these, from what I'm reading at least, all seem to be older phones I'm almost surprised that Fly even ran on any of them. I have a much newer Galaxy tab with higher specs that wouldn't run it so I switched to the Tab s6 lite. Which with the Tabs7 and newer out now you can find on the cheap. I paid $225 US delivered just the other day for my last one.
