New drone pilot here. Air 2s was stolen.

Hi, my name is Tommy. I've been into RC and photography much of my life, recently I merged the 2 with a Mini 2 and Air 2s purchase. Unfortunately my Air 2s was stolen today. I crashed it and I had to lose sight of it for a few minutes to reach it. When I got to the crash site it was gone. I found some surveillance footage and some guy picked it up and rode off on his bicycle. Someone on FB suggested I post the story here as well so here is the link.

I'm pretty devastated, I don't really know what my next move should be now. Keep an eye out for it for me.

You might consider a more positive approach and advertise a reward for the person who found your drone. It's possible that the fellow who found it just needs a little push to do the right thing or a little help in finding you.

There was a recent thread here regarding a person trying to sell what he claimed to be a lost/found drone that you might be interested in.

I'd suggest filing a police report and posting a reward.
also make a plea to the thief that maybe he didn't realize it wasn't lost that you were on your way and that if he returns it you will not pursue charges and will forget about it

Hey fellow members!

I saw @Tommyg86 post on Facebook in the Pilot Institute Study Group and advised him to join the forum and post about losing his drone. The members in Hawaii might keep an eye out for someone saying they found one, selling one as aircraft only, etc.

For those that don’t use Facebook this is a quote of that post:

My Dji Air 2s was stolen on 2/17/2022 from in front of the Banyan Tree Plaza. Thief wears high white socks and a black LA cap with white letters. He rides his cruiser BMX bike around this area. I was lucky enough to find video surveillance of the theft.

Please contact HPD if you see my drone, or this guy.

Personally I would not consider that drone stolen. That "Thief" may have saved your drone from being run over. Maybe it will turn up in a lost or found forum nearby.

Sorry to hear that maybe he will try to find the owner ? If you do get it back you should insure it state farm will replace a stolen drone Its $ 75.00 for 1 year but I'm not sure you have that option whare you live ? Good luck hopefully you get it back

Just as a matter of interest does the drone have any of the new 'binding-to-your-DJI-login/account' active? If so will that not prevent anyone else from flying it?

I am not sure if that is possible but will be a good question for DJI support.

I talked to them today, and they did say it can be reversed in the event I somehow recover the drone.

They are supposed to give me a link to track it, if someone turns it on. But it hasn't come yet. They said 24-48 hrs for that email. It's been about 12.

I don't have much hope for recovery. I'm thinking about selling my RC Pro that I got in the Fly More/Smart controller package to help cover the cost.
