Welcome to our forum, RD Harris, from Hauptmann in Texas, USA.

You'll find that the Mini almost flies itself. This can lead to overconfidence. Try to be conservative at first, and expand your horizons gradually. The Mini, at only 249 grams, doesn't handle wind as well as the heavier drones do. On windy days it's best to fly the Mini so that you have a tail wind on the way back.

Read your manual (link below), and practice using "Find My Drone". Chances are you'll crash and perhaps lose your drone. Don't wait 'til that happens to try to learn under stress in less than ideal conditions. We have over 100,000 members from around the world--I seem to remember a few in Prairieville--who will help you learn your new hobby! Ask for help when you need it. Share your work when you can!

Glad you've joined us!

Welcome to the forum fromChicago the Windy City.
Somebody already mentioned about reading Manuel, know how your RTH works, know find my drone features. It has limitations , in that it is only good as the last point were a connection between the controller and the the drone existed but it’s a good starting point. As a tracker to find your lost drone. And, find my drone will only work if the MM is still powered on. So, it’s good to fly safely, have a check list, maintain your drone, making sure it’s air worthy. Be very careful with high winds, flying in winds in excess of the design limits of the aircraft, Manu pilots. Have lost drone the first day out, never to be seen again.
