Air 2 Point Mugu Rock -- Malibu, California

The Mugu Rock is located at the north end of Malibu, where the Pacific Coast Highway turns inland towards Oxnard, CA. This was shot on a Mavic Air 2 on the afternoon of 11/4/20. Music by Hans Zimmer from the Man of Steel soundtrack.

That's a class D airspace and over a US national park. How did you get authorization to fly there?

The area around the rock itself is not a national park. It's not even a CA state park or an L.A. County park. It's basically a road side attraction. Part of the area north of the rock and on the other side of the PCH is a state park, but not the rock itself.

We checked in with the Pt. Mugu Air Force Base (about 5 miles north) and it was shut down at that time due to the fog that day (it was really thick the further north you got), but they also said anywhere south of the rock under 400 feet was fine even if the base was open. As you can see in the video, we were careful to not go north of it.

Reading your comment above I suggest you get familiar with the FAA regulations for UAS.

It is a National Park check Kitty Hawk before you fly. It affects all of us eventually.
