Question regarding maps and an offline iPad mini 3

Hello all~

So a friend of mine is selling me her ipad Mini 3 for $100 to use as a screen for my Mavic. It's the non-cell variety and I'm curious how I can go about using the maps without a cell connection. Can they be preloaded offline and are there any pre-eminent features that I might lose out on.

You can cache the maps in DJI GO like this.

When using a Wi-Fi only device, you will not be able to use the Follow Me flight mode or manually reset the home point to your current locaiton unless you connect a GPS receiver (like one of these) to your mobile device.

Could I tether it to my phones hotspot and use it that way?

Tethering will only share the Internet connection.

I use an iPad Mini 3 and so far it’s worked perfectly.

I do tether to my iPhone when i’m using it and the location/maps seem to work perfectly. The only struggle I find is recording the iPad screen whilst using the DJI app, it stutters a little.

I use a WiFi only iPad mini 2 with offline maps and the Garmin GLO via Bluetooth connection, excellent device, all the Functions that require GPS work.
